There is a short article in this week's Sports Illustrated entitled "Pipe Down, Beantown".

here is the link: http://vault.sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1141102/index.htm

This article talks about Boston sports fans needing to shut up about their championships and to stop complaining if things go wrong because "things are so good for us". It talks about the rest of America hating us and long for the days when the Yankees had it all.

here is an exert:  all this wicked p---ah talk is starting to make the rest of us wicked p---ed. Would it kill you to remember all those promises you made to the sports gods to never ask for another thing if the Red Sox could win one—just one—World Series? It seems that plenty of people who vowed in late 2004 that they could now die in peace have gone on living raucously, calling for Manny Ramirez 's head after a slow April (he's Manny, for crying out loud; he gets a free pass) and furiously chanting "Seventeen!" at the Garden last week (sixteen's not enough?) while going nuts every time a certain hoodie-wearing, illicit-videotaping NFL  coach appeared on the JumboTron.

Enough, already. To those who for so long yelled Nomah!, allow me to respond, with equal conviction: No mas!

I can see where this writer is coming from. However, I think this writer makes a huge mistake by assuming everyone who is a Red Sox fan is also a Celtics fan or vice versa. I root for basically all Boston sports, with favor going to the Celtics and Patriots, but what about that fan who roots for the Celtics and no one else, should he or she be categorized as someone who is excessive and arrogant? Maybe theres a Celtic fan who is experiencing glory for the first time in 22 years, not a fan who has experienced glory multiple times this decade. This could work for any other fan of another Boston team. What about those die hard Bruins fans who haven't experienced a title? Should they be categorized as arrogant fans who shouldn't complain when their team doesn't do well?

I know this article is comedic at heart, but it still aggravates me that the rest of the country categorizes everyone who roots for a Boston sports team. Besides, why shouldn't we cheer and celebrate as loud as possible for every title?

That's all that matters right there, great article. He can put down Boston and I love every minute of it.

Good way to look at it, we can just cheer harder every time they complain.

All in good fun!!!

Just remember, it's going to be someone else's turn some day and all we'll have are the memories and hopes of doing it again......let's just hope that the someone else isn't in LA or NYC!!

Exactly, I'm only a Celtics fan (out of all Bostonian sports) and this is the first time ever I've witnessed success. And I can tell the writer now, that if the Lakers had won a championship, they'd be much more arrogant than us (although I might be stereotyping a bit)- my friends who are Lakers and Cavs fans are sore-losers to say the least.
Anything is possible!!!

So Mark Bechtel, a writer for Sports Illustrated born in the championship starved city of Cleveland, OH and a guy who is an admittedly avid fan of the team(Caviliers) the Celtics beat on their way to the championship and a avid fan of team(Indians) the Red Sox beat on their way to the championship wrote an article about obnoxious Boston fans.

Why does that not surprise me?

I was not aware of that...makes sense.
