What are they worth on the free agent market?

Realistically, how much do you think the following players can get from other teams?  I realize the market depends on the demand for a particular skill and experience, as well as other factors.  However, taking the current needs of the other teams, availability of similar players, etc.  How much big a contract do you think these players can realistically expect from the market?

2)  Eddie House

3)  Tony Allen

Eddie House - I can't see anyone offering him more than $2mil per

Tony Allen - Likely won't get much interest. It will take someone falling in love with him and seeing more talent behind his production similar to John Salmons a few years ago. Could be anything but likely very little, and likely to return to Boston for his qualifying offer ($2.7mi).

James Posey - I thought he could have gotten the MLE last summer. Didn't. Should have gotten more than he will, I think he will get that this season but maybe not the years. A ballpark deal ..... similar to the deal Brent Barry signed with the Spurs a few years ago at $24mil over 4 years.

I agree with your assessment of Tony Allen's market value. 

James Posey, I believe at this point is worth about 5 mill per year, for about three years.  No longer than three years.  He may get more from a team that expects to make it to the playoffs. 

My take on Eddie is that he's a terrific shooter, but also has big limitations that will limit his value to most teams.  He's 6'1" but cannot be the full-time backup playmaker, his ballhandling is limited.  So his size limits him from being a full-time shooting guard, and yet, his ballhandling is not on par enough to play the PG in playoff situations.  I agree, certainly no more than 2 mill per year, on a two year contract on a team that already has a back up PG.  I believe Danny can keep Eddie for not much more than he paid last year, if he wants to.  Though it would be nice to have a backup PG who has shooting range, ballhandling, and enough height to also play SG (like Vujacic).  However, such a player may not be available to the team.

from everything I've been hearing, the market will be a soft one, especially for non-elite players, it may be very hard for TA to get a deal anywhere, much like the two kids from Cleveland dealt with... I wouldn't be surprised if no one gave TA an offer sheet he'd accept, thus leaving him to come back for one year, then leave as an unrestricted FA...

Posey I could see getting a 3 year 18 million dollar offer from a team that needs one more guy to get over the top, especially if he can start - if Cleveland, LA, Utah, even Phoenix, can afford him, I could see him (unfortunately) moving.

House may fall into a similar situation as TA - what's the market like for a shoot first undersized sg?  If he gets more than 3 mil, I'd be very very surprised, and I think with how he contributed at the end of the season, he may want to come back for another run.  If he went elsewhere, I think Houston would make a lot of sense, as would Orlando and maybe even Denver. Again he won't start, but can be a sparkplug who can masquerede as a point guard when needed

Posey: He can probably get a full-MLE deal (starting around $5.6 million) for three or four years.

House: I'm assuming a one year deal, with an option, for in the ballpark of $2 million.

Tony: I'd be surprised if he got a multi-year offer.  If we decline to extend him a qualifying offer (which I suspect) he'll probably get offers similar to House: one year at short money, plus an option.

How would you allocate the MLE?

Do you use part of it on the draft picks?  If so, wouldn't that handcuff us from resigning Posey?

The more I think about the Posey situation, the more I start to think that maybe we should pay him the money it takes to keep him.  Lets compare Posey to the other role players on the team.  These other guys have definite upsides and talent, but they also have weaknesses that the team has to compensate for.  BBD and Powe lack height.  Rondo lacks shooting proficiency.  But Posey is complete!  He's got the size to play SG/SF, he's a terrific defender who can not only defend the perimeter but can play some interior defense (depending on the opposing player, ofcourse), he's got adequate quickness and athleticism, plus he can shoot the 3-pointers.  So really Posey can answer all of the needs at his position.  The same cannot be said for all of the other guys.  I'm not sure that we can another player who can fulfill all of those needs.  We could certainly end up worse.  We might end up with an undersized player, who can defend, but cannot shoot.  Or a player who can shoot, but cannot play tough defense.  What do you think?
