Is it pronounced like "samaritan"?  Let's hope he's a good samaritan.  I hope he can play next year, we need a backup center!!!!

I wouldn't bank on it. Ainge himself said the 60th pick almost never makes the team. I'm thinking we'll get a free agent or trade to get a backup center (which we desperately need).

But it'd be funny if his name did sound like Samaritin...  ;)

Nah, it's just SEMI with an H at the end. Then Erden is pretty straight forward Er-Den, obviously.

Anyway I doubt we see him unless he blossoms into a 20-10 player with his Euro club. The thing is, he does probably have the talent to do that, but has motivational issues and doesn't work hard enough to get there.

Err... I just don't think that what I have to say merits a new thread.

Some unfortunate (and still unconfirmed) news: word from Turkey is that Semih Erden injury is worse than expected and that he can be out for 3/4 months.

Really bad news, because with Asik's injury (6 months out) he'd have the chance to earn a starting spot (although a very small chance) or, at least, to be the 1st big man off the bench. It looks like he's going to miss most of this window of opportunity, after all.

I think the chances of that happening are really slim. Erden's lack of progress for the last 4 years is disturbing. Him doing well in his club, showing some signs of development and promise and eventually earning a new contract with another top European club seems like a more realistic expectation.

no, pretty sure it's pronounced semi-erd-n, as in "or are you just happy to see me?", or "boss 's bein' [h]erd on me 'gen" (rural vermont accent)   ;)
"You're skating on pretty thin ice around here, McGee!"
"Sounds like the ice's problem."

he also said if the kid didn't have contract issues, he'd be a 1st rounder, so he sees it like our 1st rounder next year (as we dont' currently have one) - just food for thought

boy oh boy...

thank goodness training camp opens up VERY soon. when the 60th pick in the draft sparks a mega bump of a thread interesting celtic topics must be few and far between.

but thanks for trying.

I'm all for training camp, but in the mean time...

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/rookies/rankings?season=2009&playerRankingType=1&period=1&set=4

Thorpe has Erden as the 41st rookie in the top 50.  Billy Walker is no where to be found.  (Giddens is 32).

What does that mean??

It probably means that Thorpe has never seen Erden playing. Ranking him above Pekovic (another European C who is like 100x better than Erden) is laughable.

I think you are giving too much importance to this. In my view, these are minor news that, as I said, don't merit a new thread.

Yeah. Save the bandwidth for more trade scenario threads and arguments about when media day is.

I think we ought to trade the rights of Semih Erden for Dwight Howard, then we pick up Pat Burke from free agency and trade him to New Orleans for Chris Paul. Seems pretty fair to me.

Fenerbahce actually played a tournament in Slovenia this past weekend. I was really looking forward to seeing Erden in action, so I was disappointed when I heard he was injured. Still I am hoping I will be able to see him live this season...

Although I am not expecting much. I don`t really consider him NBA material, he never stood out when I watched his team or NT play...
