Here's my guess at what the Celts will do post draft:

* Let Tony Allen and Eddie House walk and go with Gabe Pruitt and J.R. Giddens as the backup guards.
* Use the entire mid-level exception to re-sign James Posey (he won't be able to get more than that from another contending team).
* Use the biannual exception to sign a backup center.
* Sign a third-string point guard to the veteran minimum (hopefully NOT Sam Cassell).

Thoughts?

I see both Eddie and James coming back next year. I can't say the same for Tony Allen. I see Giddens and Walker both making the team, so I doubt they do much on the Free Agent market. With House, Posey, Giddens, and Walker coming back/making the team, the Celtics will carry 12 active players and 13 total players including Scalabrine.

I think they are content with Powe/Davis as the center/power forward back ups as they were more than serviceable this year, and that no real significant free agent move is made until half way through the season. I could possible see them signing a couple of undrafted free agents like they did in the past years to see if they can make any contributions. Thats all though.

There might be a big name FA stillavailable come the end of the Summer. Think Posey last year. Someone who's out of our price range right now (like Posey was last June), but doesn't get the long term deal they wanted so settles for a 1 year Brian Williams/Bison Dele or Tim Thomas like season with us. Everyone's saying all the right things now, but I think Posey might be a goner. There's no one player who we can slot in to replace him, but a combo of more minutes by Davis and Powe at the 4, and the rookies at the wings might have to suffice. The good question is can someone predict who's market might not be as bright as they hoped and will be available at a discount come August?

With Giddens and Bill Walker on board there's no need to have anymore backup wings outside of James Posey.

The exits of Brown and Cassell will leave the roster spots open for Giddens and Walker (Will he wear #8?) who will likely spend allot of their time next season in the D-League.

Unless no one offers TA a decent contract I don't see the Celtics keeping him, if anyone offers him a contract they will pretend like they are going to match it then move him for a future first or second.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

1. Please resign Posey.

2. Get a defensive minded 7 footer. We now have some assets to trade (Walker and Giddens are similar, Powe and BBD are similar, Pruitt and Scal are expendable). Maybe we'll get a free agent. Or maybe Semih Erden will come over (not who I want to back up Perk, though).  Just please don't have the biggest guy off of our bench be a generous 6'8"  :-\

3. Get a back up point that can play decent D, shoot, and handle the ball well.

How serious is this comment from Doc?

"No matter who the C’s ultimately picked last night, Doc Rivers admitted that the team faced a much larger goal - signing impending free agents James Posey, Eddie House, P.J. Brown, Sam Cassell and Tony Allen.

“We would like to bring our whole team back,” Rivers said. “Pose we love. With P.J. we just don’t know. I talked to him right after the season and he just didn’t know. But I told him that he had to go home and think about it. I would like to have P.J. back - our goal is to bring everyone back - but he’s going to need some time.

“Sam just didn’t have long enough (to learn the system), but we want him back, too,” Rivers added. “All of these are guys we have to talk to, but we do have to try and pay all of these other guys off.

“I’d be happy with trying to bring them all back. The problem will be trying to do it.”

Well, I think they will do everything they can to use him in a sign and trade to get a center.

Who's going to give up a future first round pick on a broken down 2 guard who can't shoot from the outside or dribble the ball?! If someone offered a late second I would be amazed. They know we aren't going to keep him, so will just pick him up if they want him after we release him...

Just to put a name out there what you guys think  about Shaun Livingston?  He was just let go by the Clippers.

How many year are you suggesting for that James Posey contract? The MLE isn't the big issue. The big issue is the length of the contract and whether we will regret it in 4 years.

Wow he was LET GO by LA? Bring him in, Danny. He's at the VERY LEAST a good option to have as a third string PG. Best case of course is he's healthy and becomes an all-star.

He can't even do contact drills.  Give him a call for a tryout once he is healthy, but until then, he is not getting a contract.

I started a thread about him a couple of days ago.  Ya he was released, but most people here think that another team will offer him more money than we can.  If healthy he would be a phenomenal pickup.
CB Draft LA Lakers: Lamarcus Aldridge, Carmelo Anthony,Jrue Holiday, Wes Matthews  6.11, 7.16, 8.14, 8.15, 9.16, 11.5, 11.16
