Basically, February is the over 35 draft for Playoff teams,  that's the draft that matters for the C's.

In thinking about PJ Brown and Cassell, their contributions to this team down the stretch were extremely important. PJ's moreso than Cassell,  but that's for another discussion.

What I'm trying to get at, for a veteran team, it's very important to have that roster flexibility in February to add final pieces.
I'm seeing PJ's "Retirement" as a blessing.  The C's can play their young bigs and see what they do throughout the first 3/4 of the season.
If they need help, why can't PJ come back in Feb, he's only 38, he definitely has another half year in front of him.

If he doesn't want to go, I'd give Mutombo a look,  Grant Hill,  Allan Houston, not so sure about Cassell.  Any other possibilities?

It would be interesting to really rank the best players over 35. Honestly, I think Jordan would still be in there somewhere.

Shaq would definately make that list... Maybe Grant Hill...In about 9 months or so Steve Nash will be 35, so I'd say he would have a great shot at best 35 +....boy the Suns look old

I think Juan Howard would be a nice 35+ addition to a championship caliber team.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

Just because we had help from one 38 year old - doesn't mean it's that important to us. Cassell was a net negative IMHO. Let's not get trapped into thinking we have to repeat exactly the same way. The Red Sox change some guys up and still win. The C's can do the same.

Don't believe the hype - it's the core that matters. While you need decent bench help they are some expendable and interchangable.

Yeah, Cassell's time with the Cs shouldn't be extended, Rondo has exceeded everyone's expectations the past season.. Time to give more time for Pruitt to develop and prove himself.. House should be resigned if possible, he can be 2nd or 3rd string PG depending on the minutes the Cs will give Pruitt for him to develop..

Keep in mind that it is easier for a guy that relies on size than it is for a guy that relies on speed, quickness, or leaping - most people do not shrink that much by 35...
"All I have to know is, he's my coach, and I follow his lead. He didn't have to say anything in here this week. We all knew what we had to do. He's a big part of our family, and we're like his extended family. And we did what good families do when one of their own is affected." - Teddy Bruschi

Maybe Kareem can give us some run- what is he around 60?  I know he's always disliked the Celtics but he's an experienced big that could probably give us 10 or 12 minutes a night...

There's a tidbit in the Herald:  Celts drafting offseason plan article today talking about PJ's Retirement, Alonzo & Dikembe:

"With P.J. Brown unsure of whether he will return or retire, the club will contact a number of free agents when that season opens Tuesday. And don’t be surprised if the C’s, based on their success with Brown, go the veteran route again. It’s expected that they will touch base with a crew that includes Alonzo Mourning and Dikembe Mutombo."

bill russell, bird, miller, kareem.

for 10 minutes a game i am sure they would outplay at least a few of the stiffs in the nba now.

Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Let's sign Danny Ainge.

He needs to drop a couple of pounds first. Not as much as Big Baby, but still...

just get bird and miller for free throw showing purposes. that'll already be enough.

none of them except miller could do anything on the court.

I think if Magic and Barkley slimmed down they could give you ten minutes a night. Another guy is Clyde Drexler. He's still very much in shape. Hakeem, Ewing..

I'm curious as to what Hakeem might have left.  It pains me to watch Ewing move, let alone play.  Whatever you think of his game, he's just not able to go.  I bet Chief could run circles around him.
