I don't see where you guys get your arguments against Pruitt.  You haven't really seen him play at all at the professional level.  A couple minutes isn't enough to judge.  But in those couple minutes I did see him knock down a couple mid range shots and a 3 or two, that looks promising.

If he IS on this team next year, he will fall into the defensive mind set like the rest of the team and step it up I'm sure.  He has the speed, and his size is perfect - there is no reason he shouldn't.  Unless of course, he pulls a Gerald Green on us and doesn't do anything except shoot the ball.  I think being on the team this year helped him a ton, and I think some experience next year will be great for him.  If he is on the team, it will basically have to be a 3rd string spot.  I couldn't picture Rondo getting 2 quick fouls and having Pruitt come off the bench with ~15 minutes of total NBA experience.

He will flourish off the bench next year I think, because there WILL be garbage time during the regular season.  Doc knows sort of the rotation he should be using (if Posey and most of these guys end up staying.) I would LOVE to see Rondo, House, and Pruitt running the 1 next year.  I know Eddie is a glorified 2 guard, but he showed us a lot this year at the 1 when Sam simply couldn't.

perk is a above average defensive center who is going to be a productive starter for years to come. plus, eddie house is a proven vet, and tony allen is a defenisve specialist, why would you give a 2nd round guy thier minutes right out of the gate when you can ship him to the minors to get starters minutes?

the fact is, we (you and I) know nothing about the kid. you watched him play 3 games in the NBDL and a collage game? sweet.

I watched dustin pedroia in 20-25 pawsox games and thought he was a waste of a AAA spot and would never play in the majors as anything other than a bench guy. I knew nothing, and was soundly wrong.

You may be right, but considering the celtics front office is high on the kid, i'll stay optomistic till proven otherwise.

Pruitt isn't a point guard.  He can shoot and defend, but he's not a great passer.  Tonly Allen may have a questionable handle, but he sees the floor better than Pruitt. On the other hand, Pruitt has a much more fluid stroke.

Maybe he can be in a three guard rotation with Rondo and Ray.

Kind of like Isaiah, Dumars, and the Microwave.

I think he's expected to be more of a combo guard like Delonte was.

  • Doc could learn a thing or two from Norman Dale
Come on Roy, I know the Celtics are the world champs, but if a guy can't get minutes competing against Tony and House, that tells you a little something.  I'm also basing my opinion from watching him in 3 or so summer league games as well as his stats from the NBDL - where he had a nearly 1:1 Assist:TO ratio, and a game I saw him play live in college vs. Loyola Marymount.

What did you think of Chauncey Billups his first three years, when his assist to turnover ratio was below 2:1 and his field goal percentage was below 40%?  Again, just because a player doesn't immediately impress doesn't mean he's going to turn out poorly.

If Sam is coming back.. =(

I dunno.

Anyways, I would love to see Pruitt play in the regular season, and get experience. Who knows what could happen in the playoffs..

West is a much better passer than Pruitt.

My assessment of Pruitt is next season he should see some time but not quite back up minutes unless someone goes down. You can't groom two players of the future at once at the same position, you need a stable hand somewhere in there. Pruitt has a good shot, I'd say he can shoot about as well as Sam can when he is open. His handle is better than House and Cassell. His athleticism is good but not as good as Rondo. He has good height but needs to add mass.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I don't know if we can really debate Pruitt.  Because nobody really knows anything about him - in the NBA.  I think we should all have confidence in him because we very well could have found a diamond in the rough, and that would just make this team picture perfect.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
I liked what i saw from Pruitt. I wasn't really impressed with what he did, but what he didn't do. He made very few mistakes when he was out there and he took some good looking shots. He's a really smooth player offensively, and a solid defensive player.

I hope he tried to learn some things from Cassel. While he might not become as good as Cassel was i can see him developing into the same type of player, minus the post game.

I can't.  But he might become the poor man's Raja Bell.

I definitely agree with the notion that none of us have any idea what he'll be like.

That said, I think the need for an experienced backup PG is less next year than it was last year.  So he does have the going for him.
