I know it's a little late to be mentioning this, but for anyone who was at the parade, did you see the trophy?  Obviously you did, but it was more spectacular than I could have imagined.

Maybe it was the sunlight, maybe it was just what it signified to me, but it looked like the brightest, shiniest thing I've ever seen.  I can't remember gold ever looking so good.  I want to go get one myself and keep it in my room.  Can you buy one?  If so, I want one.  I might have heard it was made by Tiffany so it would probably be out of my price range.

Also, do they make just one per team or does every player, coach and executive get one?

Greg I am jealous!! I was not able to attend the parade :'( but always seeing it on TV was pretty amazing, I can only imagine what it must look like in person. I would think if you were serious in purchasing one and of course could afford it I believe you are correct on Tiffany's making it, or you could have someone make a replica for a bit cheaper. I believe to answer your question there is only one official one per team, probably kept in the offices of the Celtics display case.

There is only one Larry O'Brien Trophy awarded each year. The Celtics organization owns one trophy for 2008. That makes a total of four trophies, from 1981, 1984, 1986, and 2008.

Starting in 1947, one single NBA Championship Trophy existed. It was awarded to the winning team, who kept it for a year, much like the Stanley Cup. In 1964 it was named the Walter A. Brown trophy (for Celtics owner and NBA founder Walter Brown). This original trophy is in Springfield. In 1977, the league began awarding a new Walter Brown Trophy each year. In 1984, it was renamed the "Larry O'Brien NBA Championship Trophy" after the NBA commissioner who preceded Stern. So, the Celtics are listed 13 times on the original single Brown trophy, and they own four O'Brien trophies.

And you're right, the 2008 O'Brien trophy is the most beautiful, shiniest, golden hardware on earth!

TP for the data.

I did see 3 smaller, replica trophys in Phil Jacksons office. They looked to be about 10" high or so.

When David Stern retires, I hope they
don't name the trophy after him.
Though they probably will.

I just like the sound of
"THE RED AUERBACH TROPHY"
much better. But hey, I'm biased  ::)

There already is a Red Auerbach Trophy; it's awarded annually to the NBA Coach Of The Year. Doc Rivers has one, from his time in Orlando. And the Celtics have a Red Auerbach Award; this year's laureate is Kevin Garnett.

Yeah, you're right.
I guess I got a little carried away there.
A TP for setting me straight  ;)
