I can understand David Stern getting Booed but why was Boston fans to enfatic?

My Theories:

1) The Tim Donahey scandal: This after all is the most embarrassing moment for he NBA and it's Sterns face is on the cover of it.

2) SeattIe to OKC: I would like to think Boston fans are empathetic.

3) Game-time 9 PM: Okay, its understandable for some games to be on this late but I have to get up at 6 AM! Throw me a bone here, no Friday or Saturday and no early start Sunday. Boston fans were tired and grumpy

Agree/Disagree do you have anything you'd like to add?

not winning duncan in the draft.

atlanta hawks game in atlanta where he was interviewed: he was asked whether or not this game seemed chippy to him and he said no, nothing was wrong with the game, even though there should have been multiple flagrants called at that point.

I am not empathetic at all toward Seattle, and the conspiracy related in the above story is reprehensible and civilly actionable, in my opinion.

That city deserves to lose that franchise, and it's going to lose that franchise.

Stern can't be to popular with the Garden faithful after the whole Pierce gang sign fiasco and the number of times the Celtics were perceived to have taken it on the chin with poor officiating during the playoffs.

  • The shortest answer is doing the thing
How many sports fans actually like the commissioner? I think everyone has problems with Stern - the media is just now joining the party but better late than never.

Selig can be okay at times but most of the time people can't stand him and hate the way he has handled things. The funny thing about these two is that basketball and baseball are doing incredibly well. I think we sometimes overrate the effect that the commish has (unless we're talking about Bettman and the NHL).

There's just something about an old, unathletic white guy running a professional sports league filled with young, exciting athletes that makes the commissioner position look goofy.

We booed Stern for a lot of reasons.

1) He's a smarmy piece of crap whose quest for NBA global hegemony is sickening to any true fan. His disingenuousness on almost every single issue to face the NBA doesn't endear himself to many fans either.

2) We still remember how the NBA didn't allow the Cs to remove Reggie Lewis' contract off their books for salary cap reasons after the Celtics captain past away tragically.  This hamstrung the Celtics for a long time.

As opposed to the owner who had no intention of make a good faith effort to keep the franchise in Seattle. If you just look at half the facts it can be incriminating.

The only reason they tried a poison well was because the new owner tried to weasel his way out of town.

and why would a city deserve to lose it's team based on the actions of a a few anyway?

David stern has thumbed his nose at the fans of Seattle. It's obvious his only allegiance is to the owners.

Stern was viewed much differently 20 years ago. He was liked and praised by most.

  • Hinrich sucks, Deng sucks, Bulls suck, I'm out.
I hated stern for fining pierce during that tinsley incident when it was tinsley who was the culprit, and then you have the steve nash incident with rob horry. He handles it the wrong way and says its Sterns way or the highway, pretty much. Just don't like his attitude.

I really hate David Stern, but I hated the booing even more... it was the wrong time to do it in my opinion. We just won the championship, and all we can do is start booing people on the court, especially when he is about to present us with the championship trophy and the MVP awards? I think it tarnishes those portions of the celebration.

When asked if Paul Pierce could appeal his "threatening gesture" fine, Stern said, "well, I am the appeal board and the result will be the same."

Seattle does not want to spend taxpayer money for a stadium. Stern uses that against them.  He is a front man for fat cats to get stadiums built on the public dime.

The still do like the Finals scheduling.  Obviously the 3 day break should use the travel day but did not both times.

we booed very quietly.  :P
