This was technically the final season of his original contract, which was extended an extra season at guaranteed money for '08-'09 for being on board with the tank-job last year.

Dickerson and Tanguay right now were talking about how much Doc loves his family and wants to see his kids grow up, and that coaching even a team like this now after having won a ring may not be at the top of his priorities.

I, for one, do not think the Celtics would win banner #17 had our coach been some clown who caved into the emotions and turmoil that arose at different points during the playoffs. Doc's an emotionally stable guy whose motivational skills were critical to our comebacks and in the grander scheme of things, the title.

It wasn't too long ago that we wanted his head, but maybe his tenure with the Celtics is numbered, and something that should be monitored.

JVG. He rocks, but I don't think he would want to be part of a rebuilding process, or leave as a funny broadcaster towards a job that probably isn't as fun.

I think Doc will be back.

As long as they can find some way to keep Thobodeau and Clifford Ray, I can live with Rivers staying or going.

I hope Doc becomes the next Jerry Sloan (except with titles), loyal to one team for what seems an infinite amount of years, never really questioned as a coach because of his professionalism and his track record, just a part of the team's fabric, as the vets go on to retire new guys come in and you still have this one source of stability

The only head coaches to win a title in the last 20 years:

Pat Riley
Phil Jackson
Larry Brown
Chuck Daly
Rudy Tomjanovich
Greg Popovich

and now Glenn Rivers.

That is just crazy.  We need to keep Doc as long as possible.

Ccnsidering the contract that ownership will have to give him (4 years and $26 million or so, IMO), I don't see Doc going anywhere.
