Possible Pick at #30? DeAndre Jordan

The guy I really like is Marreese Speights.  He's a young Robert Horry.  He even looks like Robert Horry. IMHO he will be the most successful of all the big man projects in the draft this year.

Alas, he's likely be gone by #20 too.

Keep dreaming, Jordan's a likely lottery pick.  People compare him to Dwight Howard, do you really think he's going to be around for us to get at 30?

I think there's going to be a good young big around at 30 if Danny chooses to go that route, but I have a feeling he's going to take the swingman with the best upside, with an eye to 2010. 

Young bigs like Hickson, Hardin, Anderson, Thompson, and the Euros all look like flier material.  I'm not too crazy about Euros, especially after watching three of them standing around while Leon Powe dribbles 60 feet and dunks on them all in a NBA Finals game.  I don't see a young Euro being able to get on the court with the Cs and playing effectively on the defensive end for at least a couple of years.  Our young bigs, Powe and BBD, might have been clueless at the beginning of the year, but they were tough and hungry, something that most bigs from Europe aren't.

I have 100% faith that Ainge is going to hit a home run at #30.

saw jordan a few times...he never had an effective game...don't understand his potential....now jason thompson is another story...i had him pegged at #30 early, but i don't think he'll be there

thompson's a kid i definitely like and most certainly should be there when we pick. excellent form on his jumpshot all the way out to college 3pt territory. very quick and athletic. has a good frame for the kid to add muscle to. decent arsenal in the post. played in a weak conference but put in great numbers.

No, because Kedrick Brown was picked in the lottery, and I won't repeat the laundry list of excellent players the Celtics could have had instead pf Brown.  This year's pick is #30, which is Travis Knight territory.

As for Thompson, the MAAC isn't that weak. Schools like Manhattan, Marist, Iona and Sienna have good programs. Plus they (Rider) beat Rutgers. He might be a decent pick.

Drafting low usually isn't about hitting a home run, its about getting on base or in scoring position if you're lucky

Nah, I'd rather swing for the fences. It's not as if this Celtics team needs immediate help or has big holes to fill. It's a 66-win team.

One of you guys said it corecctly, who ever they choose doesnt need to be an instant impact kind of player. Let him have some minutes off the bench next year, get familier with the league, and grow him for the near future. I think a lot of who they pick will depend on if they believe Perk is the guy for the future in the middle. If so you go guard or small foward to play behind Pierce, and to learn from him.

Also, for what it's worth, Draftnet has him checking in at 13.  Personally, I'm not sure what the fit is for Portland (don't they have another rookie center of sorts?)...but the range in the draft seems about right.

Yeps, they had the former DeAndre Jordan, Patrick O'Bryant. But I think they've just waived him. I'm pretty sure the same thing will happen to Jordan after his second year in the league.

I thought Golden State had O'Bryant, no?
