Which was better

Celts by 39 over Lakers to clinch NBA title at home in 2008
Red Sox pounding Yankees in Game 7 10-3 to win AL pennant in 2004
Apples and oranges
Loved them both equally

I just posted this in another thread, but was curious to hear what was sweeter.

I actually was trying to think what is more enjoyable: the Celts crushing the Lakers like they did last night or the Red Sox doing the same to the Yankees.  Of course, it would be hard to parallel the magnitude of the whooping the Celts gave the Lakers, but all things being equal I think I might actually enjoy seeing the Yankees spanked by the Sox at least as much.

Sure would be fun to find out.  Maybe the Sox can beat the pulp out of the Yankees in a clincher so we can see.  Oh wait, they kinda did.  Hmmmm...which was better?

Hard call, but given the long history and the way it transpired I think the Sox Game 7 vs the Yankees was still a bit sweeter.  It's like choosing between knockout twins at a beauty pageant though.
Yup

Celts will always be number one in my heart so last night was more special than any other Boston sports moment that I've been alive for.
"Take this down," said O'Neal. "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the (expletive) truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn't know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."

Laughing at the Lakers futility and the Celts utter dominance was pretty darn fun.

Seems like it's not fair for me to answer as someone who isn't truly a "Boston sports fan."  Much as I'm a Yankee-hater and enjoyed the Sox' run, it didn't do much for the beloved Dodgers.  So you know where I stand.

That said, I loved the "choosing between knockout twins" line, Redz.

Probably be better to ask this question in a few years with some perspective (and maybe on a PAtriot site or something ;) )

It's like choosing between knockout twins at a beauty pageant though.

it's exactly like that.

for me this was sweeter. it's a shame there's no "perfect season" there for the pats though.

I was comparing these two events mainly because they involved clinching games that involved blowing out your arch nemesis.

I definitely enjoy apples and oranges better than I do any sporting event.  Mmmmmmmmm....  fruit.

Hmm... I loved Tuesday night and it was a beautiful thing but...

The Sox hadn't beaten the Yanks at anything ever (slight hyperbole).
The Celts have historically owned the Lakers

I was around to enjoy the championships in the 80's
I was not around to enjoy the championship in 1918

The Sox victory was an elimination game (lose and they go home)
If the Celts lost on Tuesday, they would have won tonight.

Of course, 17 is still sinking in. We were really that bad last year and really that good this year. Wow!

So who's a better GM:
Danny Ainge or Isaah Thomas

I think its gotta be the Celtics especially after game 7 the year before.  Red Sox fans had to deal with Yankee fans for sooo long.  Also, as much as I appreciate the Lakers Celtics Rivalry, we only see them twice a year during the regular season.  We see the yankees about 21 times a season and it was also the same year as the v-tek A-rod fight.  I think in addition to the team rivalry, the underlying stories like the nomar trade, and curts sock, just made that season so much sweeter.

i see. i'd still love the twins/beauty pageant choice though. it'd be twins all day every day.

I voted for apples and oranges for this reason:

One was to get to the finals and the other was to win the finals.  If you modify the answer of beating the Yanks for straight followed by sweeping St. Louis, then it's a fair comparison.

If I had to answer that question then it would be the Sox in a landslide only because I had the 80's with the Celts and had never seen the Sox win it all.  That being said, the win on Tuesday night was sweeter than the 07 Sox.

The key comparison I have between the examples put forth is the tremendous lack of sleep.

I love my kids, call me a sap - it's true.

I love the Red Sox, but the Celtics are EVERYTHING. It's no contest, the Celtics winning the Finals blows the rest of Boston sports championships out of the water.
