I was just going through some old posts, and found that I posted this during the tough C's / Cavs series:

Thanks for staying positive.  Almost everyone on this site is a bunch of whiners.  It doesn't have to be easy.  Sure, we'd all like it to be.  But, just cause it isn't doesn't mean it's over.

You just have to look at what the Red Sox did in '04 and '07 to understand that.  I can already see people replying ... "This team is not the '04 or '07 Red Sox."  But, I don't think anyone was saying we can come back and win after the 19-8 drubbing to the Yanks in '04.  Nor, were there lots of positive vibes after falling behind 3-1 to the Tribe in '07.  And, this team ISN'T EVEN TRAILING!

I may not come back to this site until the playoffs are over.  Most of you guys are way too depressing.

I was clearly wrong about not coming back until the playoffs were over ... I lived on this site.

Just wanted to start a thread where other people dug up old posts that were somewhat prophetic.

  • The good ole days.
Here's an email I just pulled out from a chain I had with 3 coworkers, all who played basketball in high school and two that played in college:

Celtics win games 1, 2, 4, 6.

They played to their opponents early on and got their due criticism.  The Detroit series left me with no doubt that they can beat the Lakers.  Lakers go down 0-2 and the selfish Kobe we all know and love (to hate) returns.  It's enough for them to win 2 of 3 at home, but that's it.

A joke that you think the Celts can beat the Lakers at all, much less in six.  Lakers in 5.  They’ll win one in Boston, then sweep their home games (where they have not lost this postseason).  If Boston somehow is only down 3-2 after five games, then they’ll lose in six.  No way it goes seven and even more no way the Celts take this.

Predictions:
Kobe= finals MVP
Ryan’s [me] world comes crashing down

I had an AIM exchange with a Lakers fan friend of mine before the playoff series where he questioned the Celtics bench.  So, I was rattling off the good players on the C's bench, and when I mentioned Powe, he said he'd never heard of him.  I said, "If you haven't heard of Leon Powe, trust me, you will before the playoffs are over".

Then, he gave me a hard time about this statement during the ATL series when Powe fell down guarding Joe Johnson.

Then, before the Laker series he reminded me again of this statement.

After game 2, however, he was embarrassed!

My attempt at restoring sanity to the CB faithful after a tough loss.  Title of thread was The Big Picture.  The Celts took care of business EVERY single time they needed to during this playoff run.  You can say they could have made it easier for themselves, but they NEVER trailed in any series.  Here's the post:

If ever there was a playoff run that begs you to keep an eye on The Big Picture it is this years Celtics postseason.  If you dissect each game as an individual entity you would have to diagnose these Celtics as completely inconsistent.  But if you look at The Bottom Line of the results as a whole they continue to do exactly what they need to do.  They're well into the 3rd round of the playoffs, and now sit just 6 wins from a championship.

It's hard to keep things in perspective when a team you know can play to near perfection, lays an egg like they did last night, and have done so on numerous occasions in the postseason, but in the end, a loss is just a loss.  You don't get penalized with extra losses for "not showing up", or "not having energy", or "not having good rotations", "or choking".  You get 1 loss and you move on to the next game.

What has been frustrating on a day to day basis is the Celtics inability to carry any momentum from game to game, but the opposite has also held true.  They haven't carried their failures from game to game either.

What are we, almost six weeks into the postseason?  The Celtics are right where we hoped they'd be.  It hasn't always been pretty, but they've done the job and they're once again in an excellent position to advance.

Try to keep focused on The Big Picture.  It makes handling the tough games a lot easier.
