38 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists, 19 free throws attempted.

Just a phenomenal effort by the captain.  He deserved to win tonight, but his teammates let him down.

he certainly did! the rest of the celts were kinda off today though. and those 3 missed free throws by kg were huge, add to that the missed tip in. i just hope the captain isn't burned out yet when they head home. i still believe the celtics will win this one in 6 games.

No, he played selfishly tonight. A guy who wanted to win the mvp mainly. I mean listen you have guys like tony allen giving you points , and you don't pass the ball enough. Also he needs to understand he aint no pg. He could have played a bit more of a team game like last three games he played by making the right passes.

He made two bonehead plays in the end hogging it. He also ... waived off the coach and wanted to play the whole game. He was exhausted and maybe thats why he messed up.

I applaud his individual effort don't game me wrong, but his team effort was pierce of last year

He stepped up when his teammates needed it.  He almost singlehandedly kept them in the game.  He played his butt off on both ends.  He had a hot hand and he knew it.  He exploited the matchup the Lakers were throwing at him and was converting.

You want to call him selfish?  You gotta be kidding me.

He carried this Celtics team tonight.  All the greats have that ability.

You have got to be kidding me.

He had 8 assists, and was the only guy getting to the line consistently.  Which point guard would you have rather had handling the ball?  Rondo, who played like a scared kid?  Eddie, who can't handle ball pressure?  Sam, who looks only for his own shot?

Pierce is the only reason this game was competitive.  You are completely, utterly off-base here.

No i aint. He could have made a few more right passes, the right plays.

Man why do you guys keep backing up his bad tendendies all the time?? if another celtic does there is a firestorm of critism.

He had the ball in his hands liek the whole game. Why don't you trust your teammates?!?

Are you kidding? Without Pierce this would've been a blow-out. He basically kept us in the game.

Roy is right. how can u even say that.
the guy played his heart out tonight, he was our leading assist guy.
he was selfish just because they had no answer for him, carried this team.
KG let him down, i was happy with the way the rest of the team played, even Sam.

Pierce was awesome tonight and I did not for one second see an unselfish player out there. If anything, I would have even liked for him to take more shots in the 4th quarter. KG was not stepping up, Ray Ray for some reason was not getting the ball...PP needed to do just what he did. He has the heart of a champion and hopefully, we will all be rewarded with a big win on Tuesday.

Pierce did have a couple bad turnovers late... but as I said in the game thread, and as was echoed by JVG and the Sportscenter crew, the last one for the Kobe dunk was a reach in foul.

But come on... on the whole it is tough to find faults.  He's bound to have turnovers when he's playing that key of a role.

Why don't you trust your teammates?!?

What teammate would you have preferred that Paul defer to?  Again: 8 assists.  19 FTA.  Numerous other plays where he was hacked and no foul was called.

Pierce was a scorer *and* a play-maker tonight.  I'm not sure what the problem was, but if Rondo, KG, or even Ray played at Paul's level tonight, we would have won handily.

8 assists.  That's not trusting your teammates?

Look, Pierce was getting the favorable matchups, the good looks, and his shot was falling tonight.  He was seeing the openings and finding his way to the basket.  Look how often he went to the line.  The Lakers couldn't stop him.

Let's face it.  This comes down to the Bryant strip, doesn't it?

Wow thats just crazy talk. Paul Pierce was the only reason we were even in this game . He got hacked on the last turnover by Kobe which wasn't called of course
