The above scorecard of the "experts" predictions for the finals' series, was sent to us by listener Chris Enright, who has been doing a little score keeping of his own.
One expert, who does get it on many levels is the irrepressible, Peter Vecsey; currently the NBA writer for the NY Post, and commentator on NBA TV, who has long standing ties to the game and brings an acerbic wit and a "take no prisoner" attitude.
Peter sent me this below in an E-mail after Boston won game three in Detroit, taking back the home court advantage they lost in game two.
I felt from the outset the winner of Celtics-Pistons needed to win twice away.....
His analysis after game 2 of the Lakers series, in his column in the Post on June 10th, gives some insight into the Laker's difficulties......
June 10, 2008 -- LOS ANGELES - For the greater part of two Boston victories, the Lakers' historic triangle offense has been unsettled, strangled and subjugated by a collapsible, converging defense that controls penetration and curbs open 3-point tries when there's a complete five-man commitment.
Has Jackson conceded Tom Thibodeau, the Vitamin C's advanced defensive designer, has figured out how to clutter and ambush the triangle's passing lanes?
Peter placed Phil Jackson in a "[dang]ed if you do;" stay in the triangle, or "[dang]ed if you don't;" just give the ball to Kobe and clear out dilemma, that marked the game four debacle.
Peter will be our guest on the pre game portion of the show.
Post game, we will have Scott Souza, Celtics writer for the Metro West and Eric Pincus, who covers the Lakers for Hoopsworld.com.
Both Scott and Eric will be at the game and will be bringing us the latest news from the respective locker rooms and post game press conferences.
Will we be celebrating the long awaited 17th championship? I think so.
It has long been the signature of "Celtics basketball; " a TEAM with intense will that overcame a group of individuals with a huge star (or two, or three) that never matched that unity and will and hence went home empty.
Let it be so again and on father's day,....... for Doc!
We hope you will join us.
