Have you guys ever heard what he has to say in the last few minutes of the first quarter? "the game is over", he mused  so early on the game...as i recall, they should pose some sort of neutrality in commenting the games especially at a critical point where games are into the thick of the fight, AND FAR FROM OVER!!! as the tears for fears song goes "in my head there is a mirror, when i've been bad, i've been wrong, FOOD FOR THE SAINTS THAT ARE QUICK TO JUDGE ME(US), HOPE FOR THE BADMAN, THIS IS THE BADMAN'S SONG"!!!the beat for the celtic nation just started, and we'll be dancing to its sweet tune on sunday!!!

Eh, i like JVG, and if we imposed that rule, we'd have to turn on a good portion of the people in the game thread.

Not his fault he caught an epic comeback to the chin, plus im in a forgiving mood :D

In a way, didn't he jinx the Lakers?

Consider karma before you make such a move.

(Besides, he's intelligent and honest - we need more commentators like that...)

I think Van Gundy is funny as heck. And what he said is normally a pretty safe bet. I think anyone would take a 17 point lead if they can get it. Not a big shocker.

He was just going with what seemed like an obvious assumption at the time ... and jokingly at that. He may have been trying to jinx the Lakers, too, as he's been one of the most pro-Celtic announcers in the entire media this year. I really like the guy, and would love to see him as part of our organization, (though I won't get into particulars, for obvious reasons).

Are you kidding me?!? Tommy's an icon in my family, and the greatest "Homer" alive! No way ... I was talking more along the lines of the coaching staff, not press.  ;D

Wouldn't mind seeing JVG doing color for the C's road games rather than D-Marsh (nothing against D Marsh, JVG's just significantly better) assuming Tommy doesn't do them, but that would probably conflict with his ESPN schedule
I'm just a celticsblogger.  We gonna blog on a sock, we gonna blog on a sock.

just want to ask one question, why would he even try to be a color commentator for the celtics if he is already getting national exposure and is the color commentator for the 2008 finals? :P

Come on, do you nothing of the JVG persona? I think he's been excellent so far. The man when he comments on the game is more knowledgeable than most about The Association. Now, if  you don't get the whole JVg sarcasm/overstatement type thing, thats fine, but, you know, acknowledge the messanger. Granted, living in NYC the last 10 years or so, which includes the JVG head coaching of The Knicks, I became a fan of the guy, and now I do really like his mix of expertise and analysis mixed with his very New York sarcasm commentary.

Also, check this (Marc Jackson and Breen mug for the cameras and ESPN and JVG could care less):

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5rm8c_jvg-final_school

Look at him there, brushing off ESPN/Disney saying, who cares about this BS lets talk on camera, the game is on, give 'em the facial expression equivalent of the middle finger saying who cares about our faces theres an NBA finals game going on!

Aside from possibly some of the worse colour commentary in professional sport, I like JVG. He seems to know what he's talking about almost all the time. I like the fact he will debate a shady ref decision more so than alot of the other national commentators. Still noone beats Tommy as the best caller of the game! :P

As soon as heard that sentence by v. gundy I says to my lil brother, "did you jus hear what v.g. jus said." He was quiet and I thought to myself, what if it all turns around later. Just like my laker class mates they're  having these pre celebration talks, talking a gang of smack, like i said before i'm the only Celtic in the classroom and everyone's been verbally stabbing me left and right, verbal ice picks, verbal bricks thrown (its a war out here) went to in n out yesternight and uh drunk laker called out me and my bro cause we got our Celtic gear on, he said we're gonna pay the price on sunday. So anyhow, back to my school, in my classroom i've been trying to keep my composure and i'm praying, i'm praying for our celtics. I've been receiving hate messages by way of txt messages from all kinds of purple and goldies, ooh i'm gonna try to be patient, its tough. Game 5 here we come. Go Celtics!!!!!

I was more annoyed by Mark Jackson in the first half when he said that it wasn't a foul when Kobe clearly slapped the guy's arm(I forget who got fouled, either Pj or KG). He even called it a clean block.

JVG hasn't been terrible but he can be annoying too, he seems to go over the edge and be a tool sometimes. Breen and Jackson on the other hand have been so biased and they are constantly annoying IMO.

in retrospect, no wonder why boston have been lame the past years, because "we fans" take all the crap that has been thrown at us...jvg like kenny smith has been after tails all playoffs long, and most of us doesn't even have a clue..when its good that we should be in a "forgiving mood", that doesn't mean we put ourselves in a position that we just take what they give...there's no vendetta here, plain and simple action vs. reaction...and btw, his color commentaries  ain't colorful, they are black and white, black as kobe, white as jackson...he's with new york for the longest time, what qualifies him all of a sudden to be a boston fan...c'mon guys open your eyes, series ain't over yet, we forgive when we already hoist the trophy atop our heads...as for now we're just clasping the door handle, EITHER RIGHT OR LEFT FOOT INSIDE YET...
