I'm not as horrified by the prospect of Sam getting more minutes as some of you.  Obviously if Rondo can't go I don't feel nearly as good about our chances this evening but I don't think Cassell (or House) would be an absolutely terrible option.

I think he knows his minutes are limited right now and either he decides on his own or Doc tells him to do a quick "heat check" to see if his jumper is falling.  If not, he knows he will be shut down quickly and Rondo will be back in but if it's falling Doc will ride him until he gets cold.

I think if he knew he needed to be a solid PG for quality minutes he would be able to temper his shooting mentality enough to still be productive.  If his jumper wasn't falling I think he would make the adjustment to passing to the Big 3 more.

sooo...he intentionally costs us possessions to see if his jumper is on? what an awesome idea....

also, when has doc ever shut him down quickly because his shooting was off? that one time last game? that was only after he had shot 1-5 and given farmer the easiest 6 points of his young playoff life on cuts.

doc routinely lets him huck up bricks for 4-6 minutes at a time...

he could make a contribution, but considering he's stunk in all but 2 games, and has been horrid for the last 2 and a half series, wouldn't you just go with house?

you know, that guy who plays defense and hussells his tail off?

A "heat check" is something that is often used with players utilized the way Sam is.  It's part of the game and always has been with players that have an ability to get hot.

I'm not saying Cassell can definitely turn into the hero or anything but I don't think Boston has seen much of the real Sam Cassell.  He's not my favorite player but people forget he is still able to come up with clutch points and clutch times . . . he was big in Game 1 of this series keeping us in the game along with KG in the first half and he hit the 3 to beat San Antonio in his first few weeks here.

I'm simply saying I think he CAN and we'd better HOPE he is still able to contribute something.

This Rondo injury is scaring the heck outta me.

Sam can definitely be an effective player for this team, if he chooses to be.  The main problem when he's in there is that he holds on to the ball a little longer than he should.  That kills the flow of the offense.  But let's say he chooses to pass earlier, decides to hustle on defense and rotate in a timely manner, and make better decisions about his shots.  With those few changes, he can be a very effective player.  He's got the size advantage over Fish, he shoots way better than Rondo, and handles the ball much better than House.  I can see him shooting well and being effective in this series.  He'll be able to force Kobe to play defense out on the perimeter.  It's up to Sam to make the adjustment.

Sam I Am gives us a SHOOTER when our offensive can't squirt a drop.  Rondo runs around and burns the clock and then passes to someone who has to shoot a desperation shot.  Doc loves experience and yet has two very experience point guards sitting on the bench the whole game. As Tommy would say, "Give  me a break!"

Sam is TERRIBlE. he ruins the offensive flow. He takes poor shots. He plays zero defense. He doesn't even handle the basketball well. Doc is right - play Tony Allen over Sam. It's actually no contest. TA is a much better basketball player - as is House.

.324 Fg% .231 3pt% in the playoffs and that's a "SHOOTER"?  I think you're mistaking a Gunner for a SHOOTER.

It's troubling how many people still think Cassell is a valuable option.  Doctors call it Battered Cassell Fanatic Syndrome or BCFS.  No matter how many ill advised shots he bricks, no matter how many possessions he wastes with selfish play, and no matter how many offensive players blow by him like he's in cement, the Cassell Fanatics return to the boards singing his praises, craving more.

Repeat after me BCFS sufferers.  It's not your fault.  It's not your fault.  It's not your fault.

Tony Allen is a shooting guard.  He plays good defense and should guard Vujacic or Kobe and give Ray a break.  Tony also drives and attacks the basket like few Celtics do.  Only Pierce and Powe draw fouls better.  Sam is a proven winning point guard with a ton of experience.

but eddie can contribute more, so why go with sam?

and one or two shots is a heat check. 0-6 is "i don't care, im shooting"

Did you notice Sam draw Kobe and Ariza to cover him?  I hear those two guys are the Lakers best defenders.  The Lakers respect Sam for a reason.

Only in the first game to prevent him posting up Fisher. Not in the last two games. I wouldn't mind seeing Sam post up Fisher or Farmar, as long as he sets up our Big 3 for some good looks as well.

Sam is all about himself. Remember when he played for the Clips and Rhondo was lighting him up. Sam cheaped him. He did not care about the Clippers and did care about a pending deal with Celts. Sam is all about Sam. He's just good enough to get you beat. Doc's rolling the dice and playing with fire.

If Rondo cant play, which i am certain he can, i start Sam and let Eddie and Powe spark the bench still. Give Sam 20 minutes and House 28...But Rondo will be ready to go.
