Stuart Scott and the national media

Is anyone else getting sick of the love affair with Kobe and the Lakers. The Lakers deserve the attention after the win last night, but they were already gettig it. I guess being down 2-0 must be some sort of advantage in the news.

The stuff I am talking about are the subtle things. They seem to open every segment on ESPN talking first about Kobe and the Lakers. They talk incessantly about what Kobe and the Lakers need to do in the series. They even put Magic on the halftime show in Boston. There are one or two ex-celtics out there with a ring they could put on the half-time show in The Garden.

Only Wilbon and Barry talked about how the Celtics simply played poorly and lost by 6 points. There just seems to be very little credit given for the better team winning most of the games so far. Hollywood is obviously a bigger pull to these people than good basketball.

I was at both games in Boston so I wasn't able to hear what the guys was saying about Lakers during the Pre and Post game shows.  However last night I thought I was watching the Lakers home telecast. It was Kobe this and Kobe that.  LA this and LA that.  I think for game 4 I might as well turn the radio on and the volume off my TV and justlisten to Grady and Max.

tell me about it. And stop with the Jordan BS! Kobe is NOT as good as Jordan. End of story. Maybe if he grew up a bit, but as far as I can tell he is a phenom but a total ninny. He barks out every time he doesn't get a call, even when he goes to line 15 times in a game. And I hate his little sarcastic jabs in the postgame interviews. He may be incredibly skilled but he's gotta learn how to be a man and not snap at teammates and refs when things dont go his way.

You're 100% absolutely correct.

After Game 2, the story wasn't... "The Celtics are truly good" or "How Are The Celtics Up 2-0" it was "What does Kobe need to do..." or "What does Phil have up his sleeve..." or "How can the Lakers..."

I understand we're not as sexy as LA, but it's insane.  None of the national media picked us to win, we're winning, throw us a freakin' bone.  I guess it's true when they say that defense wins championships, but offense gets you the glory.

ABC owns ESPN. ESPN has a contract that it holds dear with the NBA. thus, sicne the NBA despratly wants to rebuild kobe's image to be micheal until lebron takes over, were going to hear how great he is for 48 minutes.

of more annoyance to me is, whenever theres a questionable foul call, for ETIHER team, we never get to see it. instead its a canned highlight from 2 minutes ago.

im getting real sick and tired of a criticle call being made on the floor and instead of seeing it for ourselves, seeing a vid of kobe/kg/pierce/whoever while they talk about a play from 4 minutes ago.

grow a set and show the play espn.

there was a cross promotional ad last night, I forget what it was for, maybe the Hulk, and they were showing guys on the Celtics and guys on the Lakers, and they literally showed Kobe at least 3 times, they showed Vuvajic, I think they showed Gasol, (not sure about Odom) then for the C's, they show Rondo, they show Perk taking a tip, they show KG once, no Ray, No Paul - anyone see this? remember what I'm talking about, its kinda hazy at this point (darned 9 pm games) but it stuck out at me

I agree with the OP.  The national bias is reminiscent of Stern's quote from weeks back, that he preferred to see "Lakers Vs. Lakers" in the Finals.  The Lakers have Kobe, he's not only the MVP but arguably the most famous active basketball player for casual fans, so they get the lion's share of the attention.  The Lakers also have an active, engaged fan base, partially a product of being in the Finals four of the last nine years.

Even if the Celtics win the series, there will never be a moment when it isn't principally about the Lakers in the national media eye.

Sadly, I live in LA, where before Game 3 you couldn't turn on the radio without hearing the conspiracy that the NBA had it in for the Lakers in the early games to make the series last longer.  (Ridiculous for starters because it can NEVER be in the NBA's interest to have Kobe on the bench in foul trouble!)  Out here, if the Celtics win, either they're cheating or the refs are cheating for them.  No sportsmanship whatsoever.

At least the national guys have the sense to stay away from that nonsense.

But I too noticed that ABC had Magic on in Boston, then they come to LA and have Jerry West!  This is the Lakers' media world, we're just living in it.

Listening to the media praise Kobe is sickening..... that's why today I wasn't watching sportscenter since I knew they would be all about the Lakers......

I totally believe Tim Doneghy's comments that the refs wanted LA to win the championship back in 2002 so they determined the outcome ....... sadly, this is very possible to happen again this year.

The half time puff piece on Kobe "the good family man" Bryant was sickening. ABC/ESPN wanted this series to be a big crowning parade for Kobe's greatness. I really don't want Kobe to win another title, ever.

ABC/ESPN aka Disney have no shame.

I've said it before, but all this media bias will just make winning the title that much sweeter. After the Celts win, the major headlines will probably be "What went wrong with the Lakers" or "Kobe vows to learn from this experience to win it all next year." But you know what? I don't care. Because nothing can sour the feeling of watching #17 go up in the rafters. And no matter what the media want to write about next week, they'll have to put "defending NBA champs" in front of every reference to the Celtics for at least the next 12 months. And it will bring a smile to my face every time they do.

In the words of Dennis Green "If they want to crown their butts, crown them"  I just hope the Cs don't let them off the hook.

But the national media already crown the Lakers and Kobe as king from the start of the series.  They don't want to admit that they was wrong.

Stuart Scott and Stephen A. Smith are worthless. ESPN needs something different. In all the year I've been watching, the best NBA guys were Kilborn for highlights and Aldridge and Ramsey as insiders.

Ya, is ESPN/ABC kidding me, how could they possibly show the celebrities at the game and COMPLETELY FAIL to zoom in on Marty and Rotondi sitting next to the C's bench?
