it's nothing serious between the two, just trash talk but i don't think pierce plays his best basketball when he trash talks. so i agree that he needs to give it a rest.

I look at it this way:  who is it more fun to beat, a guy you don't know or a guy you may have to see all summer. I would be more motivated to beat the guy I was going to see often.

russell & wilt were friends off the court as well.
they didn't yuck it up in the middle of a game.

bird & magic were friends, sorta.
they touched fists out of respect and then played ball - no yakking & smiling.

i remember a quote back in the 70's from paul silas .....
 "we don't help guys on the other team up off the floor because we look at them as the enemy."

unfortuanately, that type of perspective is out of vogue these days.

lets not forget that if teams were to engage in that attutude, they'd be labled bad and disrespectful by the world wide leader.

the PC wuss world has hit everywhere, and it includes sports.

anyone who shows anything but humlity and love for every other player and the media is labled as a "loose cannon" or "dark tempered" athlete.

I bet jordan now, with whats come out in books about how he treated opponenets, would be seen by the media as an donkey.
