KG is not a prototypical NBA power forward in the mold of a guy who plants himself on the block and produces from that position. Those are guys like Al Jeffersona and Kevin McHale. There aren't that many of them.

More important than whether or not KG should play more in the post is who you pair with him. if you have a bruising center with a post game you can get away with a perimeter oriented PF and if you have a lost post PF you cna get away with a jump shooting center...

For example:

McHale was dominant on the block > Parish could stumble around down there but he was really a jump shooting center and decent at it which worked well spreading the floor for McHale

Olajuwan played on the block but he mixed it up pretty good with alot of shake and bake in the 15-18 fott range on the elbows and the baselines too.

Dantley wa great in the block so it worked that Laimbeer was mostly a jump shooter

Shaq had a dominant low post game so they could get away with horry floating on the perimeter.

I think the key is the right compliment. We need to either develope from in, draft or sign one more player with a good post game that will give us more flexibility in complimenting Garnett.

I like Perkins and Garnett from a Defensive standpoint but offensively they don't really compliment each other that well becasue while Perkins definately bangs on the block he doesn't have a well developed game down there yet.

Powe is good but I think based on his size he has a limited ceiling.

Big Baby: Here's a guy who could do it. Big Baby is a classic low post banger who can wreak havoc on the block, regardless of his height. he eats space and can play an inside out game with Garnett. These two have played very well together in spurts because they can both pass and handle the ball well.

You can't leave Baby in solo coverage on the block, nor can you leave KG on the outside...

I'm not saying this would be my starting lineup..but it could be the answer when we need someone to go in there and pair up with Garnett who can wreak some real offensive havoc in the paint.

In this scenario, Garnett provides the 7 foot center defensive presence and outside shooting. Baby provides the toughness and the moose effect on the block. It's effective.

If Baby adopts the KG/Perkins workout program this summer, he might be ready for thsi next season.

If not, moving up in the draft to take someone like Hibbert...a bruiser on the block with more scoring ability than Perkins might be helpful.

Point is not waht KG can't do but perhaps...how can we compliment the so many things he excels at in the best possible way?

To me that's getting or developing someone who can draw enough attention in a fistfight down low to free up KG outside.

Big Baby is a good match because he can also switch roles with KG due to his "decent" outside shot.

Not so sure about big baby on the block.  Do you remember how almost every one of his shots got blocked in the Cleveland and Detroit series?  I do not think he is big enough and he definitely does not have enough lift.

Yea, I don't really see Baby as a good compliment for KG... I like Powe better, and even though he doesn't show it often, if you watched Leon at Cal, he did have a good midrange shot. Also, Leon gets to the line A LOT. Should have gotten there more than a couple of times in Game Three, but it didn't end up going that way.

That would make him a complement for KG.  And I agree.  I've always wondered what a prime KG and prime Shaq would do next to each other.

The perfect compliment for KG would be "KG, you are an all time great and for the most part your defense, rebounding, passing, and screens have really helped this team out.  But you're shot is struggling, we could use your magnificent self in the paint just a little more."

True.  Powe is better than Big Baby for this purpose. But yes, I agree with the original post.

Here's something else to think about.  KG would be the perfect complement (second banana) to Yao Ming.  The offense would center around Yao Ming.  But KG can compensate for Ming's lack of quick mobility with his speed and athleticism.  Ming can compensate for KG's low post game.

KG could be a good complementary player to Dwight Howard also.

But I digress.  Based on our current roster, Leon Powe would be the best bench player to complement KG.  Good low post players are hard to come by.  Maybe Danny should hang on to Powe and try to develop his game.

Again, I digress.  But a good complementary player to Rondo would be Sasha Vujacic.  His shooting ability and size can compensate for Rondo's.  His defense will be a good fit with the Celtics.

Jermaine O'Neal. (if and only if he's on the cheap.  He's unrestricted).

Better yet - here's my FA wishlist, in order, as being complementary for the team:

G: Mo Evans, L Hunter, Duhon, Baron Davis ($?), Vujacic (Restricted)
F: James Posey (Player Option), Elton Brand ($?), Eduardo Najera, Matt Barnes, Ryan Gomes (Restricted), Corey Maggette ($?)
C: J O'Neal, Brezec, Diop, Birdman
God bless and good night!

I like your list.  Being we are in over the salary cap, we may as well just keep Powe and live with his lack of height.  I'm not sure Posey can get better money elsewhere.  Maybe Jackson will decide to bring in some enforcers next year and let Sasha Vujacic go.  If so, I would like for Danny to make a play to get Vujacic a contract.

There's absolutely no way O'Neal exercises his option.  He's due something like $44 million over the next two years; why give that up?

And sorry about bringing down the grammar police act... I'm just got a lot of pent up frustration that is rearing it's head in any KG related thread.  6-21 will do that.

Because he's been injury ridden, his team stinks, he's unhappy and wants a ring?  Again, I'd probably stick with the cash too, but you never know...

Edit: regardless, the fact remains that he is the perfect complement for KG on both ends of the floor.  Offensively has the range to stretch the D to the elbow area, good footwork and can finish with both hands around the hoop.  Defensively, good weak side helper and decent 1v1 shotblocker.
God bless and good night!
