I know after reading the title you will probably think this tread is going to be about Walt Whitman's famous poem about Abraham Lincoln. but it's not, it's about another Captain. It's about our Captain, The Truth, Paul Pierce.

Selfish, Immature, overrated are just a few words that have been used to describe Paul Pierce throughout his Career. Aside from a few moments, thise words can not be more inaccurate. Piece is the Heart and Soul of this team. The Players know it, Celtics Fans know it, and now finally the Media, and other Fans outside of Boston are starting to see it.

This season, and especially these playoffs have been Paul Pierce's Coming out party, it's just to bad it took 10 years for the NBA to see truly how great he is. Once again, he has had his moments of Brilliance in the past. Some Big Games, Very Few Playoff series, such as the 2002 eastern Conference finals. when a 24 yr old Pierce, put the Celtics on his back, and gave every once of energy trying to reach the NBA finals, but falling short. I mentioned his age, cause 6 yrs is way to much time for his next real shot to make it to the Finals. but to No Fault of his own, His teams were never good enough to Put him on the stage that he belongs, and with his name being mentioned in the same sentence as other Elite players. After all, it was not Pierce who traded a lottery pick (Shawn Marion, or Andre Miller) for Vitaly Potapenko. Ro it was Not Pierce who Let a big contributer of the 2002 team, Rodney Rogers walk away after the season, and trade the vertain PG Anderson for an out of shape, past his prime player with a drinking problem. and fianlly it was not Pierce who traded away his long time running mate, and close friend, Antoine Walker for a player with one good knee.

Pierce has lasted through 4 coaches Pitino, O'Brian, Carroll, and now Doc. He has been through 3 GM's Pitino, Wallace, and Ainge. Which led to 3 rebuilding periods. Watched Many players Come and go, some with talents, some with little or no talent.  And Pierce has Persevered through it all.

This Season, has finally corrected a lot of Wrongs. And finally brought players talented enough for pirce to show his ability, and his heart.  I hope Pierce enjoys every minute, Cause I know I am enjoying every minute watching an immature, overrated, and very selfish basketball player, lead his team. while joining the ranks of the ALL TIME NBA greats. And doing it in a way, that Every Celtic Fan should be honored, and Proud to Call Paul Pierce Our Captain!!!

Well said, I am definitely proud to have Paul Pierce the captain of my favorite sports team.  Being 21, he is my all-time Celtic.  I know of all the heroics of the great Celtics of the past, but Paul is the first one I've been able to follow his whole career.  Watching him finally get this chance in the NBA Finals is the most gratifying part of the series for me.  This is why myself, like so many others were outraged with the shenanigans of Plaschke and the national media goons after Game 1.  I hope his knee will let him be close to full strength the rest of this series, and hopefully he can finally get a ring, cementing his spot in the rafters high above the Parquet.
"Take this down," said O'Neal. "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the (expletive) truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn't know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."

I can guarantee that that thought never crossed the minds of 98% of the people (at least) reading that title. ;)

Paul has been absolutely tremendous this season, and will have absolutely earned it when his number is lifted to the rafters.  I don't think all of the past criticisms were completely unfounded -- Pierce had his immature moments, and didn't commit himself to defense like he was physically capable of -- but this season, he has been all that could be asked for.  He has been re-energized, and has show a willingness to adapt his game for the good of the team.  It's been a tremendous season for him, and I was glad to see him begin to get some recognition, earning a spot on the All-NBA team despite numbers that fell below his previous lofty statistics.

I think his immaturity has been overstatted quite a bit. When you take a look at the whole, his immature moments are too few and far apart for the most part and quite low in a degree of magnitude to give him the sort of negative attention he has gotten towards his maturity.

Sure he has grown and might've made some youthful mistakes in the past, but they weren't that big of a deal as they were made out to be. It was nitpicking more than anything.

Haha.  Yeah, that Robin Williams sure could act back in the day.  What's happened to him? ;)

(Great movie.  My love for 1980s movies doesn't just extend to the sports ones).
