Jackie Macmullan, Cowlishaw, Woody Paige, and Jay Mariotti all aggressively defended Paul Pierce on Around the Horn today. Jackie said in reaction to all the media like Plaske: "are you people insane?...I wish Plaske was here so I can talk to him." Cowlishaw said that Magic Johnson would have a season ending injury every other night so Plaske should know first hand.

They all said that Pierce made a legitimate, gutsy comeback with no "faking", and that the Lakers were just grumpy at the loss, especially Phil Jackson.

Jackie Mac said she talked to doctors not associated with the Celtics and they said Meniscus sprain is code for a tear, and that Paul Pierce is legitimately questionable for game 2, and that this injury sometimes requires surgery.

She also mentioned that PP could have had a cortisone shot, but I don't know if there was enough time in the locker room for that.

FINALLY, some people from non Boston media actually agree with us. But after hearing this I am a little more concerned to the severity of the injury. but we will see.

Reposted from the Plaschke thread:

Little late to the Two Minutes Hate, but here's a good article from ESPN that sums up the whole incident in a pretty objective way:

And all those pundits are idiots with more time to fill than rational thoughts.

Yeah, just saw that. Nice to see reporters with some actual perspective on things. Even Marrioti sounded reasonable which may be a first for him.
I don't understand how people don't grasp the concept of a)shooting pain in your knee, b) the thought that your season is over in the first game of the finals that you've been waiting for for 10 years, c)that being carried off and put in a wheelchair is a precaution in case it is a torn acl or something like that. You can't put weight on the knee right there if it is blown out. You have to in that situation take it back to be looked at and be as cautious as possible. PP himself wanted to put weight on it and see if he could but the training staff, led by the great Ed Lacerte (goldmedal winning trainer on the dream team  ;))said no. Got back to the lockeroom then tried it out. Really, all this "faking" talk is absurd. You feel/hear a pop you sure as can be are going to be worried and cautious.
