Simmons is a poseur. Whether you want to call it "bashing" or not is up to you. Most journalists attempt to be "objective" or at least follow the "story" as they see it. Simmons claims to be the biggest Celtic fan around - but in reality he only loves those 80's teams and has never gotten on board for the new team.

He spent so long bashing Doc, Danny, KG and the rest that he is unable to switch gears and now start rooting for the new guys. I think he would be better served dropping the "Celtic fan" act and admit he liked those Bird teams but not this team so much..

the thing about Sam Cassell is - he is supposed to be the playoff-smart veteran who makes good decisions and keeps his team on the right track.

he plays very stupid sometimes because he is an egomaniac.

i would still like to see Eddie get some minutes. he provides energy on defense and a scoring punch and he runs the offense, which is more than Cassell does.

The nice thing is, we will get to see Eddie at some point.  Doc is not afraid of mixing up the rotations (for better or for worse), and I fully expect to see Eddie and Big Baby get a little PT at some point, possibly also Tony depending on PP's knee.  This will all be part of Doc's plan to throw different combinations at the Lakers to confuse them.  (it might sound ridiculous, but it would not surprise me)
Celtics fan for life.

When in the last week did Simmons become a Celtics fan again?

Simmons made some good points. Doc did leave Cassell in way too long in the 4th last night. Every one at the game was thinking that same thing. We could have put that game away early in the 4th if Rondo was in. Cassell played well early in the game but missed his last 4 shots and took the offense out of there set in the 4th. My only other gripe was R Allen awful turnovers, the behind the back to the other team and dribbling it off his foot. Other than that Ray Ray had a good game and I was impressed with his defense on Kobe.

Please don't insult journalists by calling Simmons one. He is nothing more than a reactionary flip-flopper and he certainly, as Green17 pointed out last week on the front page, not a Celtic fan. The fact that he is a representative of us as a fanbase on such a national level is a travesty to us all. He makes us look bad.

I would rather read Adande than Simmons.

I forgot about those Ray turnovers.  Also Ray had the near turnover/backcourt pass.  Garnett saved his butt on that one.  Pierce had a bad one too in the 4th when he drove and passed to no one.

I totally agree with Simmons that Rondo was out too long.  Doc made some great moves in the game, but that wasn't one of them.

Also, the "NO-means-NO" and "COL-OR-RAD-O" chants were everywhere.  Whenever I would go to the bathroom, there would be at least one person in a Kobe jersey getting heckled with it.

Simmons is great! My favorite B-Ball writer! He's so funny, and actually sprinkles in good observations now and then. Most other writers on ESPN are terrible, especially when they try to be funny.

But I also Like Stein, Sheridan, Ford, and then Thorpe is actually growing on me.

this simmons hate is really boring now.

he's a journalist, a good one at that and he's garnering a lot of publicity through these articles.

moreover, he's a celtics fan who, generally, is objective enough not to be called a complete homer. give him a break.

Please. Simmons, Post-2004, is boring. Doc, who I am no big fan of, coached overall very well last night. Simmons, in his haste to criticize Doc for no reason, cherry-picks and spends a couple graphs the one thing that Doc did wrong (I might add, Cassell was overall a positive influence on the floor with a +1) while failing to mention everything he did right. He doesn't hold himself accountable for when he is flat out wrong.

I still can't help but read him and hope he will recapture what made him so great pre-04.

This morning on Mike and the Mad Dog, they referred to SG as having a "glass-jaw". I couldn't agree more.

I find it interesting that you complain about simmons complaining about one doc move, by bringing up one small piece of his article.  Granted, his doc bashing is a little over done at this point, but fact is, Cassell was in too long.  Crowd knew it, everyone knew it.

I thought the rest of the article was pretty good. He mostly just was writing about his experience, not really doing a hardcore analysis of the game's tactics.

Or is he secretly a poseuse?

As always, no accounting for taste. (Nor is there any accounting for Adande's absurd position that L.A. is a superior city to Boston -mainly b/c of the weather and the drivers, apparently. But I digress.)

One last note, could anyone possibly argue that Adande is somehow not biased towards LA?  Which is to say, let's not equate sports journalism with other forms of journalism as if it were up there on some high and mighty pedestal.

It's the lightest of the fluff.   Right above Page 6 "journalism" and that's about it.

Simply put, A Simmons article is generally the superior read when compared to most sports "journalist's" efforts.

This isn't just about that article. It's also about the ridiculous and unprofessional article he wrote  "when he was mad" about Doc's postgame speech to the team that was mean-spirited and flat out snippy. If he was so mad, why even post the article which would get such national exposure? It was petty. It's about claiming to watch every Celtic fan and referring to Ray as nothing more than a spot-up jump shooter. It's about writing a ridiculous article picking the Lakers and then playing the "If the C's win, it was a reverse jynx article," or the "If the C's lose, I told you so." card.

If the C's win this series, does anyone think Simmons will write an article about how he was wrong about Doc and how he's sorry for continuously skewering him needlessly? Probably not. Simmons will say "We won in spite of Doc."

Jemele Hill is much worse unfortunately, so there isn't much going on for Page 2, except for Rick Reilly.
