I don't know but did KG even smile last night?  Why is he down?  Cause he missed two free throws?  It's not all about you KG...YOUR TEAM IS IN THE FINALS!!!

KG...you may never get back to this point in your career.  Lighten up and enjoy it!  Pierce was smiling, Ray was smiling, even PERK was smiling (although I think he pulled a muscle doing it).

I know your goal is the Championship but if you don't stop and smell the roses during the journey you will regret it.

KG puts so much emotion into everything - I think he was completely drained emotionally after last night. He said he hadn't slept for 4 or 5 days. Dude needs to relax and refuel for a few days. I think he'll be ready.

He wasn't down, he was drained.  Also he knows that they haven't reached their goal yet, and will have to work hard to do so.

Thinking that it was because he missed the free throws and he is putting himself before the team is ridiculous.  Have you watched the way the man carried himself all year?
"Take this down," said O'Neal. "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the (expletive) truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn't know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."

He said his feeling was "neutral", right?  I didn't catch the whole interview, but he definitely wasn't as ecstatic as all us fans were.

There seemed to be 2 main points the KG expressed. (1) He was emotionally drainined and (2) His goal is the championship.

He was definitely making a concerted effort to not sound excited about it.  It was a little hard to believe he really felt that way, and you know he'd thought this out ahead of time - not wanting to sound too excited.

I'm guessing he was a little on the happy side though ;)

getting to know KG as we have over this past season, i would bet in addition to all the things already said (winning the Title being the real goal, etc..), i would bet a dollar he was none to happy missing those two FTs at the end there...

but that is also what makes him such a great player too...

personally, i can't stop smiling about it...

It is so easy to sit on the couch and tell someone how he should be feeling. I don't most of us can phantom how physically and emotionally draining this long season can be. The man needs to recharge with some Gatorade!!

I don't think we need to tell Kevin Garnett that it's not all about him...ever.

Sure we're all excited and this is an absolutely awesome time...but they haven't won yet. He probably wants to keep his focus and do his real celebrating after he accomplishes what he set out to do, and that's win the NBA championship, not just be there.

I'd submit there's a pretty simple explanation - we've seen (and heard) all year about KG's discipline, about how hard he is on himself and how seriously he's taking this run at a championship, about how Pierce is dancing in the locker room 60 minutes before a game while KG is locked in from his first p--- in the morning.

This run matters to KG, a lot. Not necessarily more or less than to Pierce or Allen or Rivers, etc., but, when something matters that much to you, in tends to amplify and exaggerate your personality and instincts. For Pierce, that's to be a joker and ecstatic and stay loose. For KG, that's to lock-in and focus until his bowels seize up.

When this is over, and the Celtics have inevitably prevailed, KG is going to exhale so loud the moon will be blown off its axis. Until then he's consumed by the ultimate goal. I don't think it's that he didn't want to smile last night, it's that he couldn't allow himself to (even though I suspect he was desperate to let it out).

It may be difficult to relate to, but it's the essence of KG.

He was down because the last time he got this close, Kobe killed his team.  And deep down, he knows it is about to happen again...

  • The good ole days.
1) He was upset about missing the free throws.  And this is not from some selfish need to for praise, it's because he knows that could've cost his team.

2) He was drained.

3) He was already thinking about the next task.

Obviously he doesn't think it's all about him. Otherwise he wouldn't care about the FT's.  If he cared about the FT's, it was b/c he felt by missing them he let him team down. KG is the ultimate TEAM player. My guess was that he was trying not to get to up, b/c getting to the Finals has never been his goal. Winning the NBA championship is what he's about. Yesterday was another step, but just a step in his mind.
