The biggest game in Celtic History

I know this is a big statement to make but I feel this is the biggest game in Celtic play-off history.  The Celtics have a great chance of ending this series tonight and move on to face the Lakers in the NBA finals.

If the Celtics win this game, they end a 20 year long drought between NBA final appearances.  This is the longest championship drought in Celtics history.  They have waiting on the other side the LA Lakers.  The 2nd greatest franchise in NBA history, 2nd only to the Boston Celtics.  The Lakers also have the 2nd greatest coach in NBA History Phil Jackson, 2nd only to our beloved Red.  If the Celtics want to continue to keep the Lakers and their coach in 2nd place they must win either game 6 or game 7.  But I feel they must win tonight games 6. 

This is the biggest game in Celtics History because no other team in Celtic History had to face such pressure.  This Celtics team has to live up to REAL BIG 3.  They have the 20 year old monkey on their back.  The city of Boston has been accustomed to see there hometown teams winning championship (see Red Sox and Patriots). Then there is the Lakers standing on the other side already in the finals.  Everyone wants to see Lakers vs. Celtics. 

If they lose tonight game, yes, they would still have a game 7 at home in a place they only lost once.  But that game 7 will have more pressure and more stress then any other game 7 this team has played so far.  To be so close and to lose, right in front of you own fans is a lot of pressure to be face with.

Oh by the way did I mention Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Ray Allen?  All three have been this close before and never close the deal.  Now they are one game away from the NBA finals.  If your goal is to win an NBA Championship and you want it so bad, wouldn't you want to end the 9, 12, and 11 year chase of making it to the NBA finals tonight?  If you so close do you really want to wait another 2 days? 

Tonight’s game is for all the marbles.  I know beside the name "game" on your ticket stud it's a number 6.  But tonight game the Celtics must be played like a game 7.

In my lifetime Game 7 vs LA in `84 was the biggest.

And weirdly the 1st game of the Pitino era vs the Bulls was right up there in terms of hype.

See I don't think it has to be a game in the finals.  Sometimes it's the game taht get you there.  This game to me is big because it would get us there.  It's big because of the history of the franchise.  It's big because the Lakers are already there. It's big because of KG, Paul, and Ray and how they will be view as winners or losers.  What better way to end it all with a win on the road vs the Piston in a game everyone outside of Boston thinks they can't win.  I just feel tonight game will make or break this team season.

Look the Piston have done this before.  The lost a game 5 vs. Miami, came home won game 6 and then went to Miami and one a game 7 that lead them to the nba finals to face the Spurs.  Now is the time for this Celtics team to stand-up to the road pressure and win a game that leads them to the NBA finals.

While I understand what you're saying, this is not even close to the biggest game in Franchise history.  See those 16 banners hanging in the Garden?  Those are all Championship banners.  Winning a Conference means NOTHING to this franchise (in historical terms).  If we lose this series it will be one of the biggest disappointments in the Franchise history, but, if we're talking about the Celtics, it's Finals or nothing.

For the sake of argument I'll grant you the possibility that it MAY at some point be considered the biggest game in Celtics history, but you can't determine that until the playoffs are over.  If the Celts don't win it all this Game can't have the same meaning.

Think back to the `04 Red Sox.  Many have considered Dave Roberts steal of 2nd in Game 4 of the ALCS as "the biggest play in Red Sox history".  Great.  In retrospect it was the start of the greatest series comeback ever.  But if Roberts gets stranded at 2nd the Sox get swept.  Or if they lost any of the next 3 games...

I understand what some of you are saying.  If you are under 30 years-old, this is the biggest game you have ever seen the Celtics play.  For those of us who are over 30, this game is big, but does not compare with the Celtics-Lakers games or Celtics-Pistons games of the 80's.  I am not quite old enough to have watched the Celtics in the 60's.  I will agree this is the Celtics biggest game of the last 20 years or so.  Let's all sit back and watch Boston add a bit more history to their franchise.

This is by far the biggest game in this particular group's history....... The way I see it, if they don't win tonight, game 7 is a flip of the coin...... The C's would give the Lakers the best challenge rather than a beat-up hurting Pistons team.......

I really hope this doesn't go 7 games....... the team could use the 5 days rest after going every other day for the past month and a half......... That being said, this is the closest that the Big 3 have come to the NBA finals so I expect their best game tonight.

If we lose, we get a do-over in Game 7.  I can't see how it can be the biggest game in our history, as it's not a "must win".

Multiverse?

As far as our own universe, this game is probably the most significant event that I can think of.  It's definietly bigger than the meteor that wiped out the dinosaurs 65 million years ago, ushering in the age of mammals.  We have 3 hall of famers, Detroit has 2 or 3 guys that could be hall of famers, and the dinosaurs were basically a bunch of role players and journeymen.  The only thing I can think of that was arguably more important was the Big Bang, but that's debatable.
