Honestly, the guy just rubs me the wrong way. I really don't like how he stoops to insulting the visiting team (in this case the Celtics) during the player introductions, or how after every single unforced turnover that the cetlics commit, he goes "DEEEEEEE-TROOOOIT BAAAAASKETBAAAAALL". It irritates me to no end, especially since the Pistons never even create the turnover he goes crazy over. Seriously, a pass is thrown out of bounds, and he yells like the Pistons fabulous D MADE us throw a bad skip pass. Its ridiculous.

Their video sucks too. Its just glorifying their past achievements to the tune of a limp bizkit remix. Just thought I'd throw that out there too.

He's just like every othr announcer in the league, including the Celtics' announcer.  All of that game presentation crap is worse than a commercial.  It's one of the reasons why I don't go to games anymore.  At least at home you can flip the channel until it's over.

The "Deee-troit BAAAA-sketball!" is one thing....

When I hear him using the same intonation for Detroit inbounding the ball....    ::)

"DEEE-TROIT SIIIIIDE-OUT!"

i hate the guy. i also hate (and every team does it) after every freethrow that is made by the home team there is a bell or in philly they say excellent.

Stern should not allow music during the game. If they play music when theres timeouts or commercial breaks thats fine, but not during the play.

Yeah that guy gets on my nerves too.  For some reason, I think of the "Streetball" MC when I hear him...I'm waiting for Hot Sauce to bounce the ball off someone's grill (I'd prefer that someone to be Rip Hamilton...aka...the East's version of Manu Sir-Flop-A-Lot).
In certain extreme situations, the law is inadequate. In order to shame its inadequacy, it is necessary to act outside the law. To pursue... natural justice. This is not vengeance. Revenge is not a valid motive, it's an emotional response. No. Not vengeance. Punishment.

Absolutely ... especially when he announces Billups ... wish he'd choke on his Shure SM-7! That's the queerest girly-man crap I've ever heard! (I'd sue the guy for slander and defamation of character if I were Chauncy)

That annoys me even more, thanks for reminding me If Hamilton lost the ball of his leg, and in the scrum for the ball a celtic was last to touch it, the guy would tout their maintaining possession like some great feat.

Also, another person on this thread mentioned that he reminds him of the streetball MC. I find that hilarious, because I had the exact same image in my head. If you haven't ever watched the show, you won't get this, but  every time a Piston is dribbling the ball around the top of the key, I think to myself "no reachin'! no holdin'! no reachin' no holdin'!". Then if they actually get by their man i yell out loud. "The PRO-FESSAAAAAAAAAA!!!".

I know, I'm weird.

Gotta disagree with the comment made about the Celtics PA guy.  I do not think the guy is that good (his voice cracks all the time like he is still going through puberty), but he is nothing like Mason or all of the other bush league PA guys in the league.  He basically does straight announcements -- no shtick.  Mason and all of these other guys are strictly hooterville and it is embarrassing.  But, I am an old guy (52) and unfortunately, this league is built for the young kids. My son is 13 and he thinks that Mason is funny and loves the way he announces most of the Piston players.  It is sickening, but I have to accept it.  Mason is nothing more than all of the other things I hate -- Celtic dancers, fireworks before the game, tee shirts being shot into the crowd, the freaking jumbotron -- etc.  The ADHD generation needs this kind of entertainment or they won't come back for more.  Sad, but true,

To answer the question of the thread title, no.  He's the best at what he does, and he certainly ups the energy and helps get the crowd into it; they love him in Detroit.  I've been a long-time dreamer that he would leave the Pistons and be contracted out by the NBA to work every big game.  He's great.  As I mentioned in another very similar thread on this topic, I'll dislike the team, but I've got no ill will toward the guy who introduces that team to us.

I'll agree that the video is extremely unimpressive.  However, while I'm not a big fan of the music either, I would point out (as RH also mentioned in the other thread) that it isn't Limp Bizkit but Kid Rock's "Bawitdaba." Kid Rock is from Detroit and one of the Pistons' "celebrity fans," and I think the goal is to play up the connection there.  Just wanted to clarify.

Mason does remind me of the And1 announcers.... the funny thing is, he sounds like this pimp on the microphone, but when I saw him on tv the last game, he's this chubby nerdy guy..... haha....

I know some arenas have started saying " Deeeetroit Turnover " when the Pistons visit and turn the ball over....

I think he's just as annoying as the Hawks saying " Thundersticks" before a visiting player shoots freethrows or the Mavs guy saying " Twoooooooooooo shots" when Mavs players shoot freethrows..... or even the Heat guy saying " Two minutes, Dos minutes" at the two minute warning......

The one that annoys me the most though is Sixers announcer when he says Sixers players names after they score and makes it sound like echos in a cave......

Nothing is as bad as "Let's go cats, let's go cats" by the Bobcats PA guy. There's like 500 people in the stands, and all you can hear is that guy the whole game, trying to pump up a crowd that doesn't exist.
