awesome game by the beast . . i understand taking him out tonight when they went small . . . but I still hated doc sitting him until the 6 minute mark . . . he was all around incredible tonight and doc still waited too long . . . he showed tonight he deserves the bulk of minutes at center

PIAB

I was fine with the waiting to bring him back on... you can't have Perk playing big minutes because he simply gets tired and slow. So you need to give him his rest. I'll say this, I might've tried to stay big, but with how bad we were handling the ball pressure, I think it was a good decision to bring in more people capable of ball handling regardless of the results.

They guy was awesome . . PJ was a minus 8 on the night and you preferred him in there for half the 4th? i dont get it . . play perk starters minutes he deserves it . . . the offense was a bonus, his d was great

Wait a minute, where did I mention that I preffered PJ in there? I said that Perk needs his rest. If you go back to the game thread, you'd see that I considered Perk the MVP tonight. Plus they didn't sit him till the 6 minute mark, unless ESPN is wrong. They sat him till the 8th minute mark. It wasn't that long of a wait.

That means Perk would've ended up playing 37-38 minutes, but Doc went small for understandable reasons since we were doing a poor job handling the pressure.

I just wish they made Perk take more of those 10-15 foot jumpers in the regular season. I have heard he hits them on a consistent basis in practice. If he can develop that part of his game it will be huge because teams won't be able to cheat off him.

Big Perk fan -- as I have stated before, he's only 23.

Not so much a fan of the term "beast".

Did not think they would win tonight --- so, so, so glad I was wrong.  Being wrong never felt so good.

good night!

how are you not a fan of the term beast? that is a perfect representation of the man . . . . to have that scowl at the age of 23 clearly qualifies you as a beast

Huge pat on the back tonight for Perk.  Still not a big fan and think he truly is a career backup center, but I hope he proves me wrong the rest of the way in these playoffs.  As for player of the game though, it was Garnett.  He set the tone.

I am shocked that some people thought that Perk was only average on D tonight. As an old guy who loves D, I thought he was good on his man but truly exceptional on his rotations. He often guarded 3 different men on the same play and switched flawlessly from guy to guy. (some of his teammates didn't switch as well but that wasn't his fault). More than a few times I cheered even though I was watching it on TV.
His play on offense is good in that it kept the Detroit D more honest. The Celtics need to keep looking for him on offense so their excellent defenders don't cheat off him to help on Garnett, etc.

Perk should get 30-35 a night and PJ a lot less.  He's much better (and faster) on defensive rotations.

Yeah, my friends and I aren't sure we've ever seen Perk smile. Once.

This contributes to his beast-ness.

Perk did bring the stuff tonite. The announcers were astonished at the little things he does during a game. What we are looking for is more consistency from him game after game. Maybe it will come. He seems to have the hunger but many games he's just a waste. He has skills. The fall away jumper had me jumping. Maybe he needs a Sports Counselor to build up his confidence. 10 boards and 10 pts. a nite isn't asking a lot for a guy his size and strength.

If Perk is a career back up, then we need another one just like him. He is affordable and plays a great role on the starting unit. Perk does everything he is asked and gives 110% effort every night.

Playing him and PJ is great IMO. Keep both guys fresh, dont have to worry as much about fouls. One more physical and one more experienced so they can be used situationally. What more can we want? We could still have Mark Blount in the middle. We arent going to get Amare or Howard any time soon so I'll stick with Perk. 8)

I have to say I disagree with you on this one.  I kind of understand what you are getting at (I think), but the fact is if you are using that logic (you know, the logic I am assuming you are using) then there are only about 15 starting centers in the league.

I actually have high hopes for Perk.  This is the first year he has played with any kind of consistency to his game and he still was fairly inconsistent.  I would like to think that he will get better as he continues to pick up veteran tricks and has the experience to recognize the nuances of the game he will be a solid starting center.  He has already shown the ability to have a major impact on a game, he just has to learn how to maintain that night in and night out.
