He just said it on NBA shootaround. If he had said the Celtics haven't played well on the road in the playoffs, I would have no problem. However, to simply say the Boston Celtics do not play well on the road as if it is an accepted fact, shows a general misunderstanding of this team. The Celtics all season have been the best road team in the NBA, I don't know how he couldn't know this, since his network, ESPN, has been saying over and over that the Celtics have the best road record in the regular season but can't win on the road in the playoffs.
Before anyone tries to tell me that the regular season doesn't matter and it's what has happened in the last two series that counts, let me tell you I am well aware of the Celtics results in series one and two. I completely expected Detroit to win one in Boston and I completely expect the Celtics to win at least one in Detroit, but to say the Celtics don't play well on the road is doing them a disservice. The Celtics are the best team in the NBA for a reason and I can't wait until they win their first game in Detroit. It will be great to finally silence the media, whose heads will explode when they have to come up with an original reason to pick their victor for this series.
Once the C's win their first road game, it will also really demoralize Detroit. Right now the Pistons are looking at this win, as a series win, everyone thinks if you win one in Boston, then you have won the series because it is impossible for Boston to win on the road. Just wait until the C's walk off the court victorious in Detroit, just think about how that one game will swing the momentum, and the mentality of this series. Then maybe Jamal Mashburn, will tell us what a great road team the Celtics have been all season.
