I think the Celtics should have some interest in JJ Redick this offseason. I would be interested in the C's making a deal regardless of how far they go in the playoffs. It is obvious that JJ is disgruntled in Orlando at the moment. I also think Stan Van Gundy deeply dislikes JJ as a player. So I think Redick has legitimate complaints. I think Redick is hungry to get some time on the court and can shoot with the best of them. He has played sparingly, and his value is extremely low. What do you guys think about a possible package of the 30th pick/tony allen for Redick. Or the 30th pick/Big Baby for Redick. I think these guys fill a need for Orlando. Especially Big Baby, as Orlando needs another big on the inside. It seems that Tony, and JJ, have become stale for their teams, so it makes sense to swap them. I believe Redick can become a good player. I think he can fill a scoring role for the c's off the pine. Redick will most likely be a smarter player than Tony, and just as good of a shooter as Eddie. What do you guys think?

Dude,

On the collegiate level I bleed Duke Blue.  I hate UNC so much that I refused to learn the sex of our two kids before they were born because I didn't want any light blue clothes in our house.  Love Cameron, love Duke.

This is a horrible idea.  A #1 pick and BBD for a slow marginal point guard.  He was over matched in college, he's totally over matched in the pros.

I totally wish I could support this - but I cannot.
I cannot begin to tell you how much I love my kids - call me a sap, it's true.

Why would we trade for a complete question mark? BBD already fits in.

TA will be a free agent. Hard to imagine that happening.

I agree that BBD and a number 1 would be a bit much. But if all it took was the pick I would be in favor. It depends on what it would take to get Orlando to bite. Obviously JJ is still a question mark, but I think he could fit in with this team in a limited bench role. Redick is a bit over matched at the 2. But I think he could still run off screens and be an effective 3 point/scoring specialist. This guy was the 11th pick and plays with a lot of passion.

I wish there was a Tommy Point out there for everyone who recognizes this proposed deal for the abject disaster that it is.

Redick makes Dan Dickau look like an all-NBA defender.

  • Let them hate, as long as they fear
Why not deal for JJ and bring Steve Alford back too. We'd have a 1-2 punch like its never been seen before.
And someday in the midst of time,
When they ask you if you knew me
Remember that you were a friend of mine

I wouldn't trade Tony Allen straight up for JJ

I do believe that JJ could fit on some teams out their possible and play more than he has in Orlando. I don't believe that you should trade for him and I'm not sure that Boston is one of those teams that would need him.
I don't think anyone would trade for the guy. You could just wait and pick him up for nothing when he's a free agent soon. Not saying that I want Boston to do that.

If the Celtics were ever going to be interested in JJ Reddick the most they would have to part with would be a second round draft pick. Van Gundy thinks Reddick's game is terrible and would do anything to send him on his way.

Also, you must be a JJ Reddick fan and thus, you are way, way, way overvaluing him if you are thinking that it would take a late first round pick and a player, who although he was chosen in the second round, has displayed first round talent. With that package the Celtics could obtain so much more than JJ Reddick.

And if any team feels that Reddick would be a nice addition to their team why would they trade anything when they could wait one year and sign him as a FA for the veteran minimum. He's not worth anywhere even in the solar system to $2 million per year.

The hard truth is that JJ Reddick was an extraordinary college player, truly great. But as most scouts thought back before the draft where he was selected, his game just doesn't translate to the pro level. He's slow, plays poor defense, can't create his own shot, and his only skill is that he can come around a pick and hit a jumper. JJ Reddick will be getting quite a bit of playing time before very long, don't worry. But your just going to need to travel to Europe to watch him.

Redick has two NBA-caliber skills: he can shoot, and he has a quick release.  He's also not afraid to take big shots, which is a huge plus.

On the downside, he's not a great passer, his defense is poor, he can't dribble, and he's undersized.  And he probably thinks he's better than he is.

At this point, I tend to agree with Edgar's assessment: he's Eddie House.  He may have a little more upside than House, but probably not a ton more.

I wouldn't write Redick off, and the #30 pick in the draft doesn't sound that outrageous to me.  I'd probably wait and try to sign him as a free agent, but if Danny likes him, it's not like giving up the last pick in the first round is all that much value.

As with any salary, though, salaries would have to work.  The only players we have roughly in Redicks salary range are Scal and Tony.  Orlando might take Tony, but there's no way they're taking on Scal's contract.

Thats a much better deal and if we didn't already have Eddie house and Tony Allen (who are both better than him IMO) then I would do that.  But JJ would get no burn here and would just turn into the new Scal.  Also I bet Danny could pick up a nice player in the 2nd round who might be able to contribute more than JJ.....So I guess I would not do that.  lol
