It's unreal how the mainstream media basically gives Lebron a pass on ridiculous 3rd person references like this without any sort of ridicule.  It's why I can never bring myself to like Lebron even though he can often come across as pretty likeable . . . then he makes arrogant statements like this.  Makes me sick.

I somewhat agree here.  Lebron is a great kid and a good role model.  He stays out of trouble, is very active in the community and says all the right things, most of the time.  The third person references really hammer home the 'global icon' that Lebron wants to become.  I just want him to play basketball

I think he is afraid of failing. He thinks it will tarnish his image. This maybe why he sometimes passes up the last second shot and definitally the reason he never competes in the dunk contest.

I couldn't agree more.  He is way too concerned with his image.  Unfortunatly I get the feeling that he will become the next Kobe.

IndeedProceed is as sick as anyone over the Lebron slurpfest going on right now, but Indeed thinks that Lebron was just being 23 years old, somewhat at a loss of what to say after a big loss on the road, and Lebron James just wanted to make a statement. IndeedProceed can't possibly predict what IndeedProceed would say under those circumstances so he can excuse Lebron James's somewhat silly choice in words.

"Slurpfest" you guys kill me nobody was saying anything about a "slurpfest" when at the start of the season it was all about the "Big Three".  All I keep hearing was hey did anyone think of the name for KG, Ray and Paul?  "Hey KG, Ray and Paul are going to espn to shot a commercial". "Hey ESPN is doing a Sunday conversation with the big three". "Paul Pierce is going to be on Best [dang] sport show tonight you guys watching"....Slurp, slurp, slurp.  If KG is going to take a leak and someone both word of it I'm sure you would tell us about that to.

I'd have to say that there should be a little bit more tolerance of Celtic style "slurping" on this site, than other varieties of "slurping" since this is a Celtics based site.

mmmm...slurpee

Yup

That comment didn't bother me as much as the comment when they asked him about how the team played...his response was

paraphrased: "I feel I had a good individual performance."

What the heck is that?!?!?

Who gives a crap...YOU LOST!!!

He subtly threw the rest of the Cavs team under the bus!!

  • Let them hate, as long as they fear
The guy is only 23 yrs. old and did not go to college. You want him to have the maturity of a much older dude? He and Kbe are the best players in the game but they have their flaws as any other human being. Something they do alike: they lead by example for what they are paid to do. Thats all there is to it: A spectator's sport with a lot of media coverage. Lebron is a 23 yr. old athlete; a very good one; an extremely good one whom I would like to have on my team. Just because He dont play for my team Im not going to critize every big and small flaw or idiosincracy I find him to have. "He who lives in a cristal house should not throw stones at his neighbor's. Peace
And someday in the midst of time,
When they ask you if you knew me
Remember that you were a friend of mine

Do you mean he will start raping women and get Dwest or Wally traded if they somehow upstage him?

What does maturity have to do with ego?  When I was 12 years old, if I did something great I didn't talk about myself in the 3rd person, and love myself nearly as much as he does.

I think the reason alot of old-school NBA fans don't like Lebron is because even in his rookie season, he was being treated like this.  He hadn't proved ANYTHING at all, and already he was getting veteran star treatment and was a media darling, all because the NBA hype machine wanted an individual star to get behind, a la Jordan.  There will never be another Jordan.  Maybe a player will be as good on the court, but from a cultural point, you can't intentionally replicate it.  It just won't happen.  Give up, and stop shoving Lebron and his forty pound swollen head down our throats!

They asked Lebron about how he played, not about how the team played.  Lebron always talks about how winning is the most important thing to him.

Kenny was laughing but he knows its true.  The other players on the Cavs are most likely down....Lebron will keep their haeds up.  He has all year

I agree that it was tacky at best.

Koby made a statment in a commercial in his first 2 or 3 years in the league, refering to himself as GREAT.

I have disliked him ever since, if you are great you sure as _ell dont say it.

Great players or people in general dont make these comments.
blind optimist or GENIUS

I'm not into getting hysterical over player comments.

He's a great player. I would gladly trade any 2 of our players for Lebron with a long term contract. He has shown great character since he came into the league. I really don't care what players blurt out when answering questions.

i dont see it as a big deal.  in the playoffs players and coaches often say things in order to build confidence or even call out others. but now that lebron said what he did, he must perform on friday to avoid pulling a rasheed wallace.

honestly i hope he goes off early again, i thought it took his teamates out of the game.

yeah.. make lebron score in the early goings, not allowing his teammates to get going.. then you put a clamp on him.. then he turns to his teammates and they start missing their shots

This strategy works on the road, but not in Cleveland.  The Cavs are uch more confident at home

"The third person references really hammer home the 'global icon' that Lebron wants to become.  I just want him to play basketball"

Hey, MMacOH, I'm not doubting that this is true (that Lebron wants to become a 'global icon' but I was wondering if you had anything to back this up that I could read on the net?

Thanks so much, I've enjoyed your POV throughout this series.

Oh man, I can't remember where I saw him say that.  It may have been in an interview last year.  It is all over the net though if you do a google search on it
