Did anyone else catch the Bill Russell, KG interview that was on the other night. They only aried  "the first part" but I noticed something the bothered me a little bit. In the interview Russell went on to say how great KG was, how KG deserved to win two or three championships as a Celtic. But then Russell said to KG, "if you don't win a ring, you can have one of mine" I know Russell meant this in good intetnion , but it seemed very disrespectul to me. I think KG was insulted at this point as well. Maybe I am over analyzing this, but I would expect a basketball legend (Russel) to have better judgement. I just don't think you tell a fierce competitor like Garnett that you would be willing to share a ring with him.

Anybody got a tissue.

KG is becoming the Dick Vermeil of the NBA.  The only time I want to see him crying again is when he's cradling the Larry O'Brien Trophy and rolling around the Garden parquet.

i liked the interview. bill russell has always treated KG like a son since back when he was a Twolve, and now that he's a celtic, that appreciation for his game and intensity has only multiplied. i think KG appreciated russell saying he would give him one of his rings if he didn't win one here...it was just russell's way of saying "you are a champion, whether you ever have the team and coach to take you over the top or not".

I don't think it was meant to be disrespectful and KG didn't take it that way. Just look at the way Russell was smiling at KG, he absolutely loves the guy. KG is probably just blown away that a legend likes his game. It was a great interview and great moment. Nothing negative to see here. :)

I saw that interview a few wks. ago...i found it to be an older superstar passing the torch(light thru a tunnel)to a younger superstar, whom he grew to care about like a son.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
wait a minute...i need to dry my eyes.  :'(

come on...i'm all for sentimental ramblings, but unless KG starts playing like a superstar out there this team is in TROUBLE.  so while we all want to get all emotional and have a group hug here at celticsblog, let's hope that KG steps up his game and plays like a guy who was in the running for the league mvp.

i'd love to see him take cleveland for 30+ points and 20+ rebounds...these 14 point, 10 rebound games are nice, but he needs to step up his game quite a few notches and have one of those heroic games on the road that people will talk about.

right now he's playing average basketball...and average won't win this team a title.
