Wow, Zob could retire now with a record breaking TP ratio!

The dancers topic seems to keep coming up here.  Yep, it's a stupid, sexual, un-Red-like thing, butit's not going away any time soon I'd guess.  All of the artificial stimuli at the game are obnoxious, but what can you do?  Times have changed.  Someday when the robot refs and cyborg dancers are out there we'll be begging for the good ol' days when the dancers were real and the boobs were fake.

One more thing.  Ever since they opened the "New" place, they've had that Noise-O-Meter and the highest marker has been "Garden Level".   Now that the place is actually called the Garden again does this still refer to the old place?  Isn't it time this place had it's own Top level on the Noise-O-Meter?
Yup

While I think there have been some solid arguments made in this thread, I can't in good conscience support the OP's position on the Celtics Dancers.  It goes against everything I believe in to send away attractive and flexible women; I'm sorry, but where I come from (Earth), that's just not right.

I'd prefer to minimize the out of game distractions like the dancers and stupid videos. With the exception of Gino and Welcome to the Jungle right before tipoff.

get over it people, this is creating job opportunity, it is a league wide issue, and beside, dancers come in after either timeout or half-time, and i dont know what basketball is going on during that time, how can you expect celtic not to hire people.  it is a shame and lame excuse say Red didnt want them, we arent coaches smoking cigar now because Red use to do it.  I hope Jeff or Roy if you read this, to tell stop posting this topic.

I honestly don't mind the dancers.  I really wish they'd get rid of that stupid jumbotron though.  You can only take so much of people acting like idiots trying to get on the thing, but what are you going to do?  Today it's all about 'Game Presentation'.  yay.  :P

This much I can tell you however.  I was at Sunday's game and that was an old time Garden crowd there.  Jumbotron or no Jumbotron.

Yeh, I was up in the 2nd to last row from the top and it was pretty electric in there.  I think the biggest eruption of the was on Rondo's kickback pass for the dunk by Perk.

  • LETS DO IT AGAIN!
I can live with the Celtics Dancers, but these are the things that have annoyed me throughout the year.

1. Gino - Funny the 1st 10 games then annoying. So annoying that people have Gino shirts now instead of Celtic shirts. So annoying that they actually took it of the Jumbotron because the fans cheered louder for Gino than the Celtics.

2. Little Funk or Lil' Phunk - Great, kids dancing, but we have the Celtics dancers.

3. The Jumbotron - This gives me a headache looking up at it then the game. Great for replays, bad for timeouts.

I did take some small measure of redemption by the crowd largely ignoring the "wave your towels" command.  But I have a feeling that was more because of its location on the little screen above the main one, and not because of the crowd's unwillingness to hypnotically obey the Jumbotron's every wish.

WOW, I too sat in the second to last row for game 1!!

The Jumbotron antics and the dancers legitimately take away from the energy of the game.  Before the Jumbotron (which pre-dates the dancers) when the Celtics had the momentum and the other team had to call a timeout, the crowd kept on cheering - and that cheering kept feeding off itself getting louder and louder.

It wasn't that long ago that teams had to meet out on the court because the coaches couldn't be heard during timeouts -- that was something the crowd was proud of.  (Even you young ones must remember this)  Today, as soon as the game is stopped, Idiot Nation takes over.  Grown men acting like total morons to get 3 seconds on the jumbotron.

Excellent first post - I gave you a tp as well.  If the Celts want idiot nation to be part of the makeup of the "Celtics Experience" then at least limit it to the regular season and let the passion of the game take over in the post season.
I cannot begin to tell you how much I love my kids - call me a sap, it's true.

I actually don't mind dancers if we had good ones.  The Celtics dancers STINK!  I've never seen such lame dance routines. ::)  Some of the girls are lousy dancers and the music they dance too? LOL  Fire the choreographer and the person who picks the dancers.

I think a fair solution would be to have the dancers perform at halftime and between quarters. That way they don't kill the crown energy and can still keep their jobs.
On a slightly different note. There as a thread a few days ago about the Celtics dancers being particularly sexual. I could be wrong, but I went to game 7 againsn't the Hawks, and they seemed like they have been tamed down. Came out waring less revealing outfits and I didn't see any of them doing that humping thing. Do you think they were told to tone it down for the playoffs?

I agree with the threadstarter in theory, but in practice... good luck. "Game presentation" is all the rage in the NBA now, and has been for quite a few years now. NBA executives weigh the possiblity of gaining 5 new "fringe fans" with gimmicks like t-shirt cannons and scantily clad woman gyrating at center court far more heavily than the risk of alienating the die-hards.

Because honestly, are you, as a true fan of the Boston Celtics, going to STOP going to Celtics games to protest this "game presentation" madness? Me neither. Sorry, real fans, but we're stuck with this stuff, and as long as it continues to help sell tickets, it's not going away anytime soon.

it's just the sign of the times...basketball (and professional sports in general) have evolved into another form of "entertainment" - even the players refer to themselves as "entertainers."

ironically enough, it's winning that puts butts in the seats, not gyrating whorish looking women.  most people don't go to a game and say, "well, we got our @ss kicked tonight, but we sure were entertained."
