Yesterday, Cafardo had an article about Clemens and talked about his 20 K game. Fenway was 1/2 empty that night and no one was watching the game because the Celts were in the playoffs against I believe the Hawks
I was at the Garden that night...I believe it was a pivotal game vs Detroit, either #5 or #7 and we were getting updates about Clemens
By the way....say hi to your folks

If I remember right the Clemens game was against Seattle and wasn't even on a local feed to watch. Remember, at that point the Sox had sucked since 1983 and Clemens was just some tall kid who had a great college career and could throw hard. Clemens became Clemens that night and today's Red Sox nation, for many, can be traced back to that very night, when suddenly the Red Sox had a reason to get national attention and keep it.
I was watching the Celts and my grandfather called me to alert me to what was happening at Fenway. Watch the replay of that game and the entire right field from the grounds crew out to the bleachers was empty. It was always that way - always.
Yup it was. That is until later that year. Then that all changed.
I used to love being able to go to the game and buy bleacher tickets at the gate for 4-5 dollars. Ahhhh the 70's, the good ole days. Now I have to take out a third mortgage on the house to get into Fenway.
Yup ... and forget about concessions ... I remember when a hot dog was under a buck! Thing is, though, if we as fans refused to pay these absurd prices, it would change real quick. Too bad there aren't unions for consumers! (Yeah, right!)
And peeing in those troughs with 10 beer belching strangers bumping against you really brought that Friendly Fenway feeling to a level that you really just can't get any more.
Lobster salad MY RUMPUS! Where's the cigar stand?
LOL! Man, Redz ... what a mental image! Weird how my folks never worried about me being kidnapped or molested by some creep back then. Such a different world then, (or maybe they were hoping I
would be, lol!) Used to wander around Fenway as a kid, and other kids did, too ... it was a kid's world then, or
seemed to be, anyway.
