Yes, KG should be suspended for the rest of the series. No way can you touch a ref and get away with it. The NBA better step up and show to the fans that they do not favor anyone or any team and that they do not tolerate these types of actions.

In addition, the NBA should suspend Kendrick Perkins for stepping onto the court. That man looked like he was ready to get into the battle. The NBA needs to stay consistent with its ruling from last year. If they suspended Amare Stoudemire and Boris Diaw, then they must suspend Perkins.

The NBA also needs to suspend Paul Pierce for flashing that gang symbol at the Hawks bench. What kind of message does that send to the fans? What kind of role model is Paul Pierce? The NBA has enough image problems already.

Finally, Sam Cassell should be suspended for assaulting Joe Johnson. Joe could have gotten hurt out there.

As someone else posted earlier, I think the league will try to determine if Garnett was fully aware it was the ref he was trying to remove from himself or not.

"Any player or coach guilty of intentional physical contact with an official shall automatically be suspended without pay for one game. A fine and/or longer period of suspension will result if circumstances so dictate."  http://www.nba.com/analysis/rules_e.html?nav=ArticleList

It's going to come down to whether the NBA uses a legal definition of "intentional", or a more generally understood one.  In terms of the law, "intentional" generally means somebody meant to take action, not that they intended specific consequences to result.  In other words, if KG meant to put his hands on somebody / push somebody / extricate himself physically from the situation, that's the intentional act.  It doesn't matter whether or not he intended to push a referee, so long as he intended to push somebody.

My god.. transferred intent.. my torts final is making it into every facet of my life..

Haha.  The good old days as a 1L.  You'll miss them, I promise.

Roy, stop lying...He will not miss them.  I promise.

Haha.  Relatively speaking, I loved being a 1L.  It beats the heck out of studying for the bar.  :P

1L is a pleasure cruise compared to the bar and actual practice.

Bigty, that was a great read. Wow. So Joe Johnson shoves Cassell in the back and Cassell should be suspended because JJ could have gotten hurt? Players could get hurt on any play should we cancel basketball?
Go Celtics.

Wow that article is unbelievable. And the Hawks were perfect little angels. Interesting nothing about when Pierce was hurt and had to be taken to the lockeroom a few games ago. I understand bias but that is ridiculous. At least admit that some Hawks players deserve some punishment as well.  ::)

From the Boston.com "CelticsBlog":

=================================================
No suspensions for Celtics, Hawks
The Celtics will have no fines or suspensions stemming from a skirmish during Game 4 of their playoff series Monday night against the Hawks in Atlanta, according to an NBA official.

Celtics forward Kevin Garnett pushed referee Ed Rush off of him during the skirmish. Celtics center Kendrick Perkins and Atlanta forward Marvin Williams also stepped slightly on the playing floor from the bench.

Garnett said during today's practice he didn't think he should be suspended and Perkins expressed hope he wouldn't be. The end result is that both teams will have a full complement of players available for Game 5 in Boston Wednesday night.

On Sports Tonight they just said that there will be no fines handed down for last night's altercation.   I am hoping that means no suspensions also.

Well that's good news, I wouldn't want there to be any built in excuses if the C's come short, we bring our 12, they bring their 12 and we battle....

This really should have been a non issue in the first place. The league needs to clean up their strict 'rule' policy.
