Three weeks later and I think I somehow hate the trade even more than I did when it happened.

HOWEVER, Im still willing to bet the Celtics will be a better team that the Sixers this year.

PHI is going to have four guys who all think they are the best player on the team. When has that ever worked out well? I look at them and I see the 2018-19 Celtics - a group of talented guys who cant actually function as a unit. I think Brad, having had first-hand experience with a team like that, looks at the Sixers and sees the same thing I do. Also, outside of Embiid - who will likely miss half the seasons due to injuries per usual - they probably have the worst frontcourt in the entire NBA. Dean Wade (who is also constantly missing time due to injuries), Dominick Barlow, Adem Bona, Ariel Hukporti. Woof. The Celtics have a much more balanced roster imo.

On the Boston side of things, they are essentially swapping out Brown for Tatum and adding George and Mitchell into the mix (probably sparingly in the regular season in order to save them for the playoffs). They probably win the same or just under the same amount of games as last season - Have to factor in the east being alot better this year.

Im not trying to jusify the trade. The return is still embarrassing and inexcusable. Im just saying, after a few weeks of thinking this over, I dont think this trade is as bad for the Celtics or as good for the Sixers in the short term as many may have initially thought.

I don't think they have 4 competing to be #1. Edgecomb should know he's not there yet and Embiid should understand that if he can't do back-to-backs, they can't make him the man.  As for JB and Maxey, it may be a situation where one leads the team in scoring (JB) and one gets the big shot at the end of the game (Maxey). With so many scoreres on the team, Maxey should take on more of a PG role.

I think they should trade Edgecomb to Dallas for 1 center, 1 PF and maybe get a draft pick back too....  Dallas is loaded with bigs...over loaded.   

Unless Edgecomb has superstar potential,  obviously.

he certainly seems to have it when playing the C's

when they traded JB to Philly, I was expecting this kid to be part of the deal if we were taking on PG but Brad couldn't even get this much value.

I think PHI can work out this "whose team is it" potential issue.  It is clear that it is Embiid's team.  With him, they are a title contender, without him, not so much.  When he is available, both Brown and Maxey will work around him.  When Embiid is not on the floor, I believe Brown and Maxey will work it out just fine.

Brown is a very smart basketball player and very smart in general.  He will figure this out.  I don't see this as being the issue for PHI.  They will be very good if Embiid is good.  If he is out, not so much.  They can win regular season games without Embiid, Brown won with less last season, but they can't contend in the playoffs.  It is Embiid that puts them over the top.

I mean, Philly took VJ 3rd overall. I would imagine they think he has at least All-Star potential. Edgecombe had a great rookie year averaging 16pts/6rebs/4ast.

I could see JB going , "I will show you analytics" and take 8 threes a game at 40% clip and bring his turnovers down by half letting Maxey create and Embiid dominate the paint. Brown is just that kind of guy so play or fit isn't what will hold the Philly team back.

Maxey has been banged up, Embiid has his issues, and JB has the flare ups those injuries should hold Philly back.

As for the Cs, not sure they will be better than 76ers but nothing is certain. C's main concern seems to be get JT healthy and setup future optionality. That probably means JT and PG will be getting plenty of games off to ensure they stay healthy and we see the role players and young players get more usage.

I don't care about the playoffs. I don't see either team as built to succeed in the playoffs. Philly could be better in the playoffs if Embiid is healthy-ish but they still aren't going anywhere. Neither team is going anywhere in the playoffs. Not going to get bothered about which team has marginally better playoff chances when neither team is built for success. They will both fail in the playoffs.

boston's fortunes are tied to 3 player's health in PG. JT and Robinson.

IF PG can stay healthy....i think he is a better fit with JT than Brown. I think IF he stays healthy PG is a better defender than Brown, a smarter player and a better outside shooter.

My concern is the bench. the Cs still need a 5th starter out of PP, Hauser, Baylor and Hugo. I am hoping it is PP as the Sam starting experience was brutal. He needs to stay coming off the bench.

I'd love to see Hugo earn a starting spot but I do not think his offense will allow it. And I really do not trust Joe when it comes to putting together a consistent starting 5 with bench guys knowing their roles.

But it is about the playoffs I guess. Cs could be in the ECF if things go right they could be a low seed that loses in round one if the regular season implodes with injuries and Joe's stupidity.
