Insane: Jayson Tatum is 76-9 (!!) when he has a usage rate of 33% and above in the last 4 seasons? that?s an .89% WIN RATE. 🤯

Can't have JB messing with JT usage. It's not even close. Tatum for MVP this year. Only has to play 65 games.

In fairness this is a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy. Tatum, in the past has mostly only had a huge usage games when hes playing out of his mind.

When Tatum plays well enough that he feels comfortable taking a billion shots then we typically win. The games where he doesnt have his best stuff, his usage rarely gets that high.

For 2024-25, Tatum Usage was 30.1%, Brown 28.2%
For 2025-26, Tatum Usage was 29.0%, Brown 35.1%

In the games before Tatum came back, Brown was 35.6%, so a little higher than his average for the season, and after Tatum came back, Brown was 33.3% (Tatum 29.0%).

I guess one byproduct of this is that Tatum's usage rate is going to go up, maybe above 33%.  If the percentage holds, that is a 73 win season.  At 30.1% Usage for Tatum in 2024-25, that was 10th most in league for players who played more than 40 games.  If he had gotten to 33% for the season, that would have put him at around 4th, just behind SGA and tied with Banchero.  Giannis, LaMelo, and SGA were 1, 2, 3.

Could be an interesting development to watch.

This is a wild statistic and while it does not tell the whole story, I would honestly love it if JT wins MVP, post-Achilles injury.

Mazz and Felger point out who originated this stat = Tatum's trainer, Drew Hanlen. He made the post in the middle of the season while Jaylen was doing his thing.

The Athletic then used the stat in the article. Now it is going viral.

Mazz and Felger were giving out about the lack of reporting about the friendship of Tatum & Jaylen. Reporters not willing to write about it. Not willing to say where this stat came from. Mazz and Felger believe this post from Tatum's trainer to be a sign of dysfunction in their relationship back then.
