I suppose we need a welcome thread for him...though he seems to be as enthusiastic about joining us as we are

Here is his farewell to Philly...didn't mention Boston once. Maybe he doesn't think he's staying long?

Paul George doesn't mention Boston in farewell post to Philadelphia
The nine-time All-Star noticeably omitted any mention of Boston or the Celtics in his post.

If Paul George is excited about going to Boston, then he's keeping that emotion close to the vest at this point in time.

The 36-year-old nine-time All-Star posted his farewell to Philadelphia to his Instagram page on Thursday night, bidding adieu to his home for the past two seasons. The near-200-word message seemed genuine, as George clearly built a strong bond with the city of Philadelphia and its fans in a short time.

Noticeably absent from George's message, though, was a single word about his new NBA home in Boston.

The closest George came to mentioning the Celtics came toward the end of his message, when he said, ":As I begin the next chapter of my career, I leave with nothing but gratitude, respect and memories that I'll carry with me forever."

That is weird. But what if Brad made this move so early in the offseason so that 60-days can come sooner and we will combine his salary + others in another trade?  :-X

He could also just be waiting to make a separate post about the Celtics.

I read that when he got traded in the past like to the Clippers from the Thunder his post was only about thanking the Thunder and not a mention about the Clippers. As much as I wish it meant he was on the move for a better trade I do not think that is the case. I believe Mitchell Robinson did not mention the Celtics in his goodbye post about the Knicks?

There are plenty of reasons to be negative about this trade but there are some reasons to be positive.  I think we should stick to the positive in this thread.  Yes, Welcome to Boston Paul George.  Come help us win a title.  Books still have BOS as the 4th top favorite to win the title, behind SAS, OKC, and NYK.  That is pretty good considering all the (understandable) angst that has been expressed about this trade.

A couple of things that I keep telling myself to help me accept this trade.  First, Paul George did play well in the playoffs.  In 11 games, he scored 16.4 pts with 49% 3P%.  And to me, he seemed to have the knack to score when PHI needed it most.  And this without ever having plays run for him.  It is more of a Derrick White type role vs. a Jaylen Brown role, but nothing wrong with having more Derrick White level players on your team.

The other thing I keep telling myself is that Al Horford was 35 at the start of his second BOS run and he was a pretty productive and important player for 4 seasons.  Yes, minutes were managed for Horford, and yes, he could only give you 25-30 minutes max, and never on back to backs, but he still was a key part of a title team.  So mash up Derrick White and Al Horford and that is where I see Paul George.

There is no need to wait 60 days.  Sending out PG13 can let us bring back over $70 million in salary, which is more than anyone in the league makes, and also puts us over the hard cap.  We do not need to combine him with anyone for any deal.

I really believe Paul George will not play a game for Boston. I feel a trade involving him is coming
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin
