This deal was always going to be there; I don't understand the urgency.
This is the part that doesn?t make sense to me. One explanation would be if Brad has something lined up that has its own urgency.  That we?ll know soon enough.

Brown, led a team in Tank Mode to a 56 win season and they move off of him. Maybe they mad Brown showed professionalism by showing up to work and leading a team of unheard of players to playoffs and they wanted high draft picks in supposedly the best draft class in years.

I?m gonna patiently hope that there is another shoe to drop.

We all wanted to vomit when Danny traded the #5 pick for Ray Allen.

Going to take some time to adjust to this....but I am hopeful that somehow this team becomes a better team (stress the word team) this next season without JB.

Other guys are going to have to step up to fill what JB did. There some things I will not miss about Brown.

PG stays healthy he can be a really good #2 next to JT. Might fit even be a better fit. He has/does play well with star players, knows his role, can defend and isn't selfish on offense.

I will be excited by opening night. Joe will have to really figure out a good rotation and not just jerk guys in and out of the line up.

PP will probably start. Conley his back up
White will need to return to form on offense
PG has to stay healthy and play like he did in the playoffs. He will need to do more in Boston than he did in Philly.
JT here is your chance. You are THE guy.
Rob just be yourself

Bench guys like Baylor, Hugo, Walsh, Harper, Sam and Queta have to have more ownership in winning. Next steps need to be taken.

I love this reaction (about 1min in) on 98.5 Sports Hub

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqnhA_TjRbw

"I hate it, I hate it, I hate it with a passion"

A minute later after hearing PG13's contract relative to Jaylen

"This is ridiculous ... this is ridiculous ... this is a ridiculous trade. Paul George is 36 years old. To save one year of money? One year?"

A minute later. "I Hate It".

"I hate it. Hate it, hate it, hate it. I despise it"

Another minute later

"Oh my god, I hate it. I hate it"

Later on

"I think this deal sucks. SUCKS."

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
To put this in the most positive terms. Instead of Giannis, we now have Paul George and 4 1sts

The only way this works is if Jaylen is being investigated by the league for gambling.  That is it.

My assumption is that Jaylen Brown told Brad that he won't sign an extention and wants to consider his options in free agency, and Brad basically told him to keep it wuiet and he'll try to send him to a place where he'll be happy.

Brad is an elite GM and rarely makes mives without good reason.

I also expect that PG's shorter soon to be expiring contract plays a part.  Brad probably plans to use some of those picks in another deal.  At least thats what im trying go tell myself to soften the blow.

ESPN: "As George is owed $54.1 million next season and $56.6 million (on a player option) in 2027-28, he's on one of the least team-friendly contracts in the league. If the 76ers had tried to dump that deal on a team with cap space, they would have had to include at least one first-round pick as enticement, so the value for Brown alone looks even lower."

4 hours later and I'm still just at a loss for words.

Brad and this ownership group better be pressured into speaking about this.

Championship window has been slammed shut. Trade White for what you can and maybe pray George gets busted for drugs again and start over with a lottery pick. This team is second round fodder at best. Disappointing trade. Disappointing return.

Well, this isn?t reassuring on that 2028 pick

For full clarity, here are the various options for the 2028 swap/pick the Celtics got in the trade with the Sixers:

1. If LAC is 1-16 AND PHI is 1-8, then BOS gets the best of LAC/PHI/[lesser of BOS (top-1 protected)/SAS]

2. If LAC is 1-16 and PHI is 9-30, then BOS gets the best of LAC/[lesser of BOS (top-1 protected)/SAS]

3. If LAC is 17-30 and PHI is 1-8, then BOS gets the best of PHI/lesser of BOS (top-1 protected)/SAS]

4. If LAC is 17-30 and PHI is 9-30, then BOS keeps lesser of BOS (top-1 protected)/SAS and gets LAC's pick outright, no swap with PHI at all

Scenario 4 is the only one where the Celtics get an extra pick. In all other scenarios they get the best of LAC or PHI, and swap the worst of their own pick or SAS.

So, Boston either comes away with a decent pick (somewhere from 1-16) through a swap, or they pick up an extra pick. Basically, root against the Clippers, Sixers and Spurs in 2028 if you are a Celtics fan.

Imagine blowing a 3-1 series lead to the team that you traded your second best player to.

Double whammy
