Free agent center Mitchell Robinson has agreed to a three-year, $47.4 million deal to sign with the Boston Celtics, with a player option in third season, sources tell ESPN. Robinson departs the Knicks after serving a key role on the historic championship team.

Not loving spending that kind of money on a center with zero offense who can?t make free throws. I would still start Queta.

WHOA. Yeah I did not see that coming

I do love Robinson but the ?hack-a Robinson? could become annoying when it is used against us lol. The guy can grab boards and defend though, but he will not score much

Queta

It's not exactly a buyer's market for bigs. They may have had to overpay a little bit. But he fills a huge need.

Honestly I sort of thought he was the single most likely target for the Celtics.

1) The Knicks didn't have the space under the 2n apron to bring him back.
2) He's good defensively and awesome offensive rebounder both of which the Celtics value.
3) He was available for the MLE
4) His FT issues matter less to the Celtics than to other teams. They can essentially now run Queta/Micthell tandem at center and get 48 minutes of good center player. Queta can close halvs when the FT thing becomes an issue, but it removes a lot of presure on Queta to avoid foul trouble.
5) It gives them a mid size salary they could use in trades going forward.

It makes a ton of sense.

Healthy Mitchell Robinson was our kryptonite.  Would much rather have him on the team than not.  Key word is healthy, but he absolutely elevates our ceiling.

Mitchell Robinson will go into the Celtics mid-level exception.

They are now hard capped to the first apron.

It can't be structured as a sign and trade since he received an option in the third year.

yeah I love the fit. just did not see it coming. figured it'd be more vague rumors Celtics interested but he ultimately signs somewhere else type of thing.

Duren to Boston is now at the very least MUCH harder. With Detroit using some of their space on Collins and Boston now right up to the tax with this deal it becomes nearly impassible to satisfy trade rules with Duren (due to base year compensation issues) and stay under the tax for Boston
