No idea if there is a connection to either Jay, but that could be a factor. Chemistry.

So the 3rd stringers should be:

G: Conley
G: R Harper Jr
F: D Banton (currently, likely to be replaced)
F: Cenac
C: L Garza or Amari Williams

It would be good if we could bring Garza back. Have a more established 3rd string center. Given that M Robinson is injury prone and the 3rd string center will likely need to play some during the regular season.

Garza is under contract for this season already.  Unless we trade or cut him he will be back.

I don't get the sense that Conley has a lot left on the court.  Probably a not-every-night third stringer to insure against the possibility that Harper Jr doesn't pan out, if I had to guess.  Similar to the role Blake Griffin played when he spent a year with us.

Perfectly fine on a vet min, given the mentorship and clubhouse influence he figures to bring as well.  I like that we appear to value players who are just good, likeable dudes.

I would rather Hugo because I think the energy he plays with is elite, but really the starting lineup is White, Brown, Tatum, Queta/MLE center and one of Scheierman, Hugo, Walsh, Hauser, or I guess Harper Jr.  PP remains first off the bench but likely 4th in mpg.

I agree with this.  The "random wing" supposition.  Pritchard off the bench but still plenty of minutes.  As things stand, I project the starters as:

White
Brown
Random Wing
Tatum
Queta

Random wing would be any of Walsh, Hugo, Scheierman, Hauser, Harper, or someone not on the team yet.  Walsh to me is the wild card.  He had a stretch of last season where he was a very impactful starter.  He was not able to sustain that level of play, but proved it was in there.  Another year of maturity for him and let's see if he can play at a starter level consistently.  He may not, but I am hopeful to see him make a leap again.

I should note that I think it clear Brad prefers Hugo as Random Wing (I feel I should trademark the phrase).  I would not be surprised if a couple of Scheierman, Walsh, and Hauser were moved to clear some space for Hugo.  In the post-mortem press conference in April, Brad tried as hard as he could not to say that if he were coaching he would have played Hugo a lot more.  And he did not explicitly say that, but if you watch that presser, you know he was thinking it.  And he does not want to tell Joe what to do, but he can make it easier for Joe to decide.

Trading one or two of them for a little more size (think swing), some like rui or batum or Harris to be the starter with jb at guard or seventh man behind pp on the bench would be great.

I think I would have rather Brandon Williams than 38 year old Conley

Conley is a steady ballhandler who rarely turns the ball over and he possesses an elite basketball IQ. Also, he is a highly respected 4-time winner of the NBA Sportsmanship Award.  I like Mike as our 3rd string pg, and expect that he only will play when PP and D White are not available.

I grant you dibs on the trademark.  As to Brad and Hugo, you could be right.  I don't think Hugo earned starter minutes last season, but he may this season or in the near future.  I don't see Hauser or Scheierman offering much more ceiling.  They kind of are what the are in my mind.  Harper kind of that too.  But I feel like Walsh or Hugo still could have a fair amount of potential growth in them, especially Hugo.  Nothing certain, but more potential.
