Jordan Walsh at least shot 70%+ from the line in his one college year. This guy is literally a below 50% shooter from the line over 4 college years. Like no hint of a shot.

Who knows, maybe the Boston coaching staff knows something we don't. Or maybe they just know he's willing to be on a 2-way and other guys in the range wanted real contracts.

he is from what i've read a really, really good athlete so maybe he's playable if you're playing 5-out offense with a shooting center.

Yeah, I don?t get this pick at all. Seems like he has as much a chance of making it in the NBA as Shulga.

I really don?t understand brads strategy in the second round. He passed on both Kalkbrenner and Sion James last year as well. The year before it was Flipowski. These guys played big minutes in the NBA last season. 

Also don?t understand why Brad is allergic to moving up in the draft in either round.

Definitely a 2-way contract type of player.  Has an NBA skill (defense).  He is also a sneaky good passer, averaging 3 assists per game with a 3:1 assist-to-turnover ratio.  Elite athleticism that you cannot teach.  I would have preferred Emmanuel Sharp, but if the Celtics trust their player development staff (and they have reason to in my opinion), why not?  At 40 in this draft, everyone has warts, but the NBA potential is there if they can teach him to shoot a little bit.  Below average would be fine.  And if they cannot, oh well, he will be a player a couple people complain about and most have forgotten (for me, that player is Demetrius Jackson, because I desperately wanted Fred VanVleet).

Trading up to land a 23 year old one way player that hasn't show any ability to shoot from either outside or the FT line across four seasons and three college programs seems like a poor use of resources.  Career 19.3% 3PT%, 48.8% FT%; 06.7% 3PT%, 49.4% FT% as a senior.

Zarren was saying that Mitchell had improved a lot throughout his college career. We are saying he is raw now. Zarren was saying how raw Mitchell was when he first saw him several years ago. Believes he has improved hugely since then. I can only imagine how raw Mitchell was back then.

There was a nice video from the Celtics War Room of Brad calling Dillon Mitchell to tell him he was being picked, and then IT calling in the pick to the league office.  Good vibes seeing IT back with the organization in some capacity.

So as an update, maybe not a welcome to the Celtics for Dillon Mitchell.  A recent federal court ruling has made him eligible to return to school for a fifth year, and St. Johns is interested in him returning, potentially with a $1 million-plus offer.

That ruling is being appealed, but the NCAA has lost so many times in court I think it likely Mitchell will be eligible for college in the fall.

Further, because college is not considered a professional basketball league (despite the large payments) the Celtics would have to sign Mitchell before the next draft or lose his draft rights.  At the very least, Mitchell has gained some leverage in contract negotiations, and this would explain why he and a few other early 2nd-rounders have remained unsigned.

I actually feel for the NCAA on this one.  They tried to cut down on the Wild West of waivers and exemptions and made a bright-line rule after the college seasons were over and players could move on with their lives.  And then the courts have come through and told them they must apply that rule retroactively, but maybe only to some players, and the Wild West has started up again.
