No thanks. There is nothing Minnesota has that Boston should want for White other than Edwards or McDaniel.

Gobert is too old. 34yo.

I feel like he is going to fall off a cliff in the near to medium term future. Could be 1-2yrs or 2-3yrs. His time as a top level player is nearly over.

D White is younger and has a skill-set that should age better. He is a combo guard who can play both positions so he can shift full time to SG when he gets too slow to cover PGs defensively. He can also shoot, handle, pass, is smart. So he will age well. He could be a steady performer into his late 30s if he avoids injuries.

Gobert on the other hand is a slow footed center with a limited skill-level. He can get by on his current speed but if he loses more than he becomes a much more limited defender. He doesn't have a skill-set offensively that he can rely on as his defense gets worse. No jump-shot. Okay passing but not high level passing.

D White is the better bet.

Are people sure that Gobert is going to be any better than Queta over the next say 3 seasons?  I would say there is a strong possibility that Gobert is no better than Queta in that time frame.

Is anyone actually arguing that Gobert would be better?  Feels like a bit of a strawman so far.

Gobert is better right now but but by mid season it may be even. The money is another issue so it's probably not Gobert for White but a expiring and a pick.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

My point is that if you wouldn't trade White for Queta, why would you want to trade White for Gobert, if Gobert is not any better than Queta.  It is an attempt to offer perspective.

I would think Derick White fits pretty well on a Giannis/Tatum team as a third option connective tissue type PG. He's only a few months older than Giannis so its not like he's off the timeline.

I imagine they just keep him and hope his 3 pointer bounces back.

D White will probably age better than Giannis too.

Giannis more injury issues. A game based on physical contact which usually age worse than finesse based games. Lacks the jump-shooting skill to play a more finesse game as he gets older. Reliant on athleticism.

D White doesn't have those issues.

Alot depends on how well he shoots moving forward. A 39% three-point shooter retains value longer than a 33% one. In any event I would not be in a rush to trade him.

Trading White for Gobert would be an overeactiom to a complete lack of size vs Embid.

We handled him fine plenty of times with Horford, when Embid was in better form. Even Aaron Baynes was able to hold his ground vs Embid. We can find other players to check him enough without losing a trade for a player already showing signs of slowing down.

Absolutely, definitely much better than Gobert.  I know a lot of people feel that Giannis won't play center and I think that is why they think BOS needs a center like Gobert.  I think these modern day teams don't necessarily have a Center.  What is a Center anyway these days?  In my view, any team needs some rim protection, rebounding, maybe someone that can catch and slam a lob.  Giannis can do all of this whether he is called a center or a PF or a big.  And you want every player on the floor to present some level of offensive threat.  Giannis has that too.

One of the reasons that BOS can "get away with" playing Giannis at Center is that Tatum rebounds so well.  BOS doesn't need a guy like Gobert if Tatum and Giannis are on the floor.  Plenty of defense.  Plenty of rebounding.  Giannis cannot hit the 3 enough to impact defenses.  But he can dribble right by most traditional bigs, forcing rotations, creating space for shooters, and so on.

I think White - Tatum - Giannis is a very formidable trio.  Better than White - Brown - Tatum.

This trade makes no sense if Boston acquires Giannis.  It makes a bit more sense if Boston doesn't acquire Giannis, but even then I'd think a trade of Brown for a guard and then doing this would be the only way it has any merit.
