FA is going to be a cruel exercise tonight.

This feels like an odd off-season. So many contracts being agreed before FA even opens. I don't remember this much activity in the past.

Chris Haynes: Free agent forward Precious Achiuwa has agreed on terms to re-sign with the Sacramento Kings on a two-year, $11.5M deal, league sources tell me.

Why would you give Precious Achiuwa anything more than a minimum contract? I do not understand this.

The man is the definition of a 3rd stringer.

I think Brad has his marching orders to spend very little or no money on this roster this offseason. They have the majority of their roster and they move forward pretty much as is.

This feels like a total reset financially and a 2 year process.

Maybe next season they look to be a contender. This has been a rough run since the end of the early exit.

Last night we reported the Lakers' rising interest in Toronto free agent Sandro Mamukelashvili.

Now league sources tell @JakeLFischer and me that Philadelphia's Quentin Grimes is emerging as another top Lakers target.

I don't like either guy for the Lakers.

LA needs a wing defender who is athletic enough to cover PGs to help cover for A Reaves & Luka. That is why I do not like Q Grimes for them.

Mamu - I do not think they can afford another bad defender. They need to surround Luka & Reaves with athletes and defensive players. They need that cover. That is not Mamu.

Actually, he was not awful last year, and was someone I would have looked at as a fallback option.  I think it is a fair deal.

I mean.....I don't even know what Brad tries to do at this point. Trading Jaylen for a bag of balls means we take a step back next year. Almost every mid level guy that could help just stayed on their own teams...

It kind of seems like the highest upside version for the coming year is running it back.

Someone like Anfernee Simons appears to me to be the best use of the MLE now. The center options aren't good enough. Address the lack of scoring & shot making.

G: Pritchard, A Simons
G: D White
F: Jaylen
F: Tatum
C: Queta

We had only 4 guys who could be trusted to score in that playoff series against Philly. All the others were hustle guys (Queta, J Walsh, Hugo) or limited spot up shooters (Baylor, Hauser). If any one of those 4 guys have a bad night, it leaves us in a bind. If 2 of them have a bad game, we have almost zero chance of winning. Anfernee Simons gives us a 5th guy who can get a bucket.

Create some offensive resilience. Avoid (or reduce) those long offensive droughts.

Get a minimum contract center like Drummond. Then we have our young wings and Hauser as reserves there.

Hopefully he just signs with Golden State quickly and gets it over with.  He'd have to take a pretty huge financial hit to do so, though.
