  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I think people are going to be very disappointed with what we eventually trade Brown for - and I do think we will be trading him - if they wouldn't take this deal.

We all know Brown isn't really an MVP candidate. He's barely a two-way wing at this point with how far his defense has slipped. His contract is not a positive and he's likely looking for that 2yr/$141M extension this offseason.

Yeah, Thompson needs to work on his shot, but he is an exponentially better defensive player, much better playmaker, better rebounder, and more athletic. He's also 7 years younger. I'm happy that Brown's value is likely higher than last year, but that just means the time to sell is now.

I think that team would be a mess, particularly with Joe coaching it.  Having two non-shooters in the lineup would really negatively impact the offense.

That is how I see it also.  If you trade Brown, you need to end up with a better starting line up or rotation, not a worse one.  In this case, you are replacing Brown as a starter and say Hauser, with Smith and Thompson.  Maybe Smith and Thompson are better than I realize, I admit I am not all that familiar with them.  I don't see either as even close to a realistic #2 on the title team.

And I further agree that if you have Queta (who can't shoot at all) and Thompson (who shoots 20% from 3) on the floor at the same time, that it will kill the offense.  Smith seems about like John Collins.  I would rather just sign John Collins to a vet min or BAE contract for a couple of seasons.
