2026-27 Celtics Off Season Discussion

Man, I don't want Giannis. He is going to mess up Tatum's game. Giannis is a bad teammate offensively. He can't shoot. He insists on the dribbling the ball over and over 25 feet from the hoop despite not being able to score out there. He stagnates the offense. He can't play a two-man game. He is not good off the ball. He only wants to play on-ball. He can't be a closer because he can't shoot. Tatum is going to get pushed off ball more often. I don't want this.

I want Tatum. Tatum > Giannis. I want the offense to revolve around Tatum. He plays a team game. Giannis doesn't. He can't.

One thing I would be excited about is Tatum not being double and triple teamed constantly. That could really open things up for him offensively.

I agree that I like Tatum running the offense, but I don't mind Giannis getting involved here and taking some of that attention away. It also helps diversify our offense with an inside and outside game. Giannis is such a handful.

As to the MIA offer, as reported:

Herro, Ware, Jaquez, 2026 1st, 2 future firsts

First, this doesn't even work in terms of salary matching.  MIA has to include $3.7M more and then it is a 4 for 1 trade.  MIA has to fill up their roster after.  I see Ware as a decent prospect.  Herro I see being flipped so it is a projection of what you can get for him in terms of young players and picks, which may not be much ($33M is a big contract to trade).  The picks are good not great, probably get you middle class players like Ware.  The fit for Giannis with what is left in MIA is poor.

Compare this to say Brown, or what MIL could get for Brown in a 3-way or a separate trade.  POR makes the most sense as the 3rd team but ATL could offer a decent package also.  If BOS has in fact made an offer to MIL, it is probably a deal favorable to BOS, but less than what MIL would ultimately take.

Yeah, I just don't think the Bucks want that deal with Miami. And like you said it leaves the Heat with Giannis and Bam. They don't have any good young players. They won't have picks. Bam is a nice piece but he isn't going to lead you to a title.

Herro is a bum. Hurt, no defense. The great Spo could not even motivate Ware. I think the heat's offer is the last one the Bucks would take because no one else is willing to play ball with them.

I believe Miami's future picks are also after 2030, which may be fine but MIL might covet a few picks and younger assets sooner as well.

I still think he'll end up in Miami. I'm a bit iffy about this overall reporting in recent days since the Celtics usually work in silence, and I think MIL is just holding out hope for now that other teams jump in but this Miami offer is their "safe route". Herro, Ware, Jovic, Jacquez, #13 + 2-3 future FRPs. But otherwise Stevens and the organization wouldn't just be leaking info and rumors to people like candy, IMO

The only thing other than the picks (which would be mid) out of that package would be Jacquez. The other pieces are just not good. And then what kind of roster is left in Miami? Giannis would be just going from one mid roster to another. Miami with Giannis has zero chance of winning a title any time soon. The Heat are just a mid franchise. Riley is old and washed, Spo is is overrated. They don't draft well. They do not develop their young players. Jovic, Ware and the kid they drafted this past year have done nothing for them. This whole Heat culture is a farce.

Jovic was $4.4M for 2025-26 but he is $16.2M in 2026-27.  I am not sure if they could do a trade based on 2025-26 still but the deal could be Herro + Ware + Jovic, which is probably better for MIL.  I still think they would flip Herro and get yet more young players or picks.  This still lacks that signature young player or high value draft pick or picks.

Indeed.  Earlier today they highlighted Tatum, Brown, White, Pritchard, and Gonzalez in a set.  The only interesting thing about that was Hugo getting such early billing.

I have the salary at $198,722,406 ($1,705,594 under the tax).  The team is hard capped at the first apron due to using the full MLE on Mitchell.  BOS has $10,292,594 space to the first apron, should they decide to go over the tax.  My spreadsheet seems to match Spotrac, but I never seem to be 100% reconciled.

The team has an abundance of wings on the second unit, but not really a back up PF.  I don't know how the pecking order will be with Hauser, Hugo, Scheierman, and Walsh, but there does not seem to be minutes for all of them.  The one adjustment that I would try to make is trade one of them for a young back up PF.  Not thrilled with Hauser (or any of the "random wings") starting, but I am not sure that is going to change.  Great opportunity for one of them to step up.

You need to label Mitchell Robinson as Robinson on your list, as I for a while thought you were referring to our second-round, currently unsigned, draft pick, Dillon Mitchell.

Good catch, there is always something I miss.  But yes, I intended that to be Mitchell Robinson.  He has not exactly earned first name only status like Michael or Larry.
