Second Round Game 3 Highlights: Thunder at Lakers
We are slowly but steadily approaching a resolution to the long-simmering Giannis Antetokounmpo saga. One Bucks co-owner, Wes Edens, said in March that Milwaukee would either extend or trade Antetokounmpo this offseason, and another co-owner, Jimmy Haslam, offered a more specific timeline this week, saying the team hoped to have clarity on Antetokounmpo by the NBA Draft on June 23.

That's a bit more than six weeks away and the market is very much still setting itself, but on Saturday, The Athletic's Sam Amick wrote a thorough re-examination of teams that would potentially be in play, and it included two pretty notable nuggets that could inform how this is going to play out:

Antetokounmpo is "believed to be interested in joining a true title contender," which makes things harder for teams lower in the standings to make a sincere push.
It is also "widely believed" that Antetokounmpo would prefer to remain in the Eastern Conference.

How would Giannis and Tatum mesh?  Would this move Tatum to the SF spot (many people feel he can be overpowered in the PF spot)?

Giannis does not seem to play the majority of his minutes at Center.

Power forward: roughly 70?85% of his minutes
Center: roughly 15?30% of his minutes, depending on roster/injuries/matchups

The Bucks usually list him officially as a PF.

And when Giannis plays PF and the team excels, he has typically been paired with a Center that can shoot the three (Brook Lopez).

That's not Queta.

So if we trade for Giannis, we also need a center that can shoot.  Does that move Vuc to the starting lineup?

Earlier "reports" were that Giannis was interested in the Knicks.  I am sure that NYK would trade Towns and picks for Giannis but that is not such a great deal for MIL.  CLE would make some sense, and many ideas have been posted here, generally starting with Mobley + Merrill, but CLE does not really have any picks to offer until at least 2028, and I am not even sure they can trade that one.  Maybe they can swap it.  That does not seem like it would be attractive to MIL.  DET?  They don't have the salaries to match up, but they have all their picks, which won't be that good if they have Cade and Giannis.  TOR could start with Barnes and their own picks, so some possibilities there.

But if an eastern conference contender is the criteria, that seems to favor Boston.

I?d think this would just mean NY or Boston. I can?t imagine Giannis wants to haul off to Detroit or Cleveland and sign a long term extension. NY and Boston are both contenders now and appear to be in the near future.

We just have to beat whatever they?re offering. Which, if it?s Towns and picks, then Jaylen should have the edge

Giannis in Detroit with Cunningham would be be very interesting, but it is hard to find a trade that makes sense and works financially.  If Duren would do a sign and trade then it starts to work a bit better and even Turner may be an option.  So Duren at 25% plus Robinson, LeVert, maybe Stewart if more slaary is needed, another young player like Holland and a couple draft picks for Giannis and Turner.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Whether it happens or not, I have no idea. However, I believe The Celtics have the best chance of landing Giannis.

Don't think boston does much other than marginal pieces. Runs it back as is with a center and guard.

Just kill Jaylen Brown? Seems a bit drastic.

I found this paragraph from the ESPN article below interesting. According to Charania, we actually did pursue Giannis at the deadline. The article also very clearly states that the Bucks intend on moving him this offseason:

Quote
The NBA playoffs represent another landmark point for the Antetokounmpo sweepstakes. Sources said postseason teams such as the Minnesota Timberwolves, Cleveland Cavaliers, Boston Celtics, Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers pursued Antetokounmpo at the February deadline, and their finishes to the campaign will play a major factor in their aggressiveness to trade for him.

Pls not the Lakers...don't want to envision a Big 3 of Luka Doncic, Giannis, and LeBron

Any of these teams will need to send back $58M I believe, or something close to that.  I don't know how the Lakers could do that and keep LeBron and Luka.  I don't think you need to worry about LAL getting Giannis.  NYK would have a tough time also unless MIL is interested in Towns.  I don't see what MIN could offer either.

If MIL actually ends up trading Giannis, BOS would be in a very good spot.
