3) I worry about the Giannis/Tatum fit. Now on paper it seems terrific, but we thought that about Giannis/Lillard and that blew up in the bucks faces. I do worry both Giannis/Tatum want to be THE GUY with the ball in their hands, and I'm not sure I believe Tatum would be willing to become more an off-ball guy.

Tatum will be the new Khris Middleton

The strategy will be Giannis doing damage in the paint while he's surrounded by 4 shooters. Tatum being one of 'em.

I think they?re different player styles as well, and Tatum will probably still be the guy with the ball in his hands in clutch moments because Giannis can?t shoot from the perimeter and he?s terrible from the free-throw line. But that doesn?t mean they can?t run actions for Giannis. I think both players are un selfish enough to know that whoever has the best shot takes the shot. Giannis played 120 games with Dame and I don?t think either of them were selfish. And Tatum and Brown both showed that they could be un selfish and put the team first in 2024.
Any odd typos are because I suck at typing on an iPhone :D

My point is I probably wouldn't phrase it like that when explaining the situation to Tatum. I don't think it would go over well.

I especially wouldn't tell him he's the new Khris Middleton.

I have to imagine having Giannis on the floor would make pritchard and Tatum even more dangerous. Put them in pick and roll all day. Lobs central.

Tatum is the Paul Pierce while Giannis is the Kevin Garnett  ;)

Except it's their 2008 version

That's a better sell, worth noting that 2008 Pierce/Garnett would have bother guys at a lower USG rate then they've ever had. around 25-26% vs over 30%.

They may be okay with that, its not certainty.

Ultimately, I'm gonna vote "No". I wouldn't call Jaylen "untouchable", but I'd lean towards still keeping Jaylen + Tatum and trying to upgrade the roster around those two.

My other worry with Giannis, he's been dealing with calf issues over the past 2 seasons now at different points. Seem ominous?

I would prefer to trade White, Hauser and picks in 1 or 2 separate deals (basically just remove White and Hauser) and add another center + wing OR guard to the mix. Whatever permutation allows that, it needs to be done. Let Baylor play more and unleash him next year even if there's some growing pains. And you don't even need a superstar center, just someone who is playable in the postseason and can defend alongside Queta who will continue to grow. Garza is fine as a 3rd big. Basically, upgrade from Vucevic. There are options, and Stevens I'm sure will get creative similar to how he pulled it off in 2023 without giving up any of the Jays. The C's will probably also have the MLE to play around with to sign someone solid.

Giannis doesn't do that much in the PnR (as the roll man). Even when Lillard was there. That was why they had trouble creating a good two man game (between the two of them).

Giannis doesn't like setting screens. He doesn't like working off the ball. He wants to be on-ball. He wants to be the creator off the dribble.

NBA.com stats has him at around 2 PnR big man possessions per game in 2024 and 2025. Around 7% and 8% of his total offense.

According to PBPStats.com, Antetokounmpo has assisted on more three-pointers than two-pointers in each of the past two seasons, with a low of 209 three created in in the 2023 season, and a high of 290 created the following year. Over his career, he has assisted on 2,325 three-pointers. That's almost as many as Jaylen Brown and Derrick White have made combined (2,437) over their entire careers.

It should be no surprise that Antetokounmpo is a three-point generating machine. His drives are massively effective, and they generally require a lot of defensive help. That opens up passing lanes to shooters, which Antetokounmpo finds regularly.

If anything, we could see Boston?s three-point volume go up. Brown's closest season generating that kind of three-point volume was this past season when he created 196 over 71 games. By contrast, Antetokounmpo created 135 over 36 games. So anyone pushing for the Antetokounmpo trade thinking it will force Mazzulla's hand to change strategies is sorely mistaken. "Mazzulla-ball" will probably take off under these circumstances.

I thought the above was good analysis.  It is true that Giannis is not a traditional pick and roll guy but he creates shots for other through his ability to drive and draw defenses to him.  If anything, it will be good to see BOS doing something other than pick and roll after pick and roll.  Giannis will give them the ability to do something different.  The offense will have to change some to best utilize the Tatum-Giannis combination over Tatum-Brown, but hopefully a change for the better.

If this happens I?m really hoping Giannis is one of those guys that you can?t truly appreciate until you?ve seen him play every night.  I get that he?s a great player but I?ve only really seen him play against the Celtics and occasional national games/playoffs.

Yup

Brad did say the Cs hd a hard time generating good looks. He also said they were not good enough inside coupled with the fact that he went out of his way to say they were not good vs the elite teams in the league.

Giannis seems to solve a lot of that.

I voted Yes just because the noise is getting too loud. If this does not push through we may be forced to trade JB anyway. And his value may take a hit because teams will know that we need to get rid of JB because the bridge has been burned. This trade needs to happen.
