The Bears have been talking about a new stadium and now one just across the border into Indiana is looking like a real possibility.

Well, it's almost certain that they've leaving the city of Chicago one way or another.  The question is whether it will be in Illinois or Indiana.

One of the biggest problems is the McCaskey family themselves.  They're asset rich & cash poor (in relative terms) and refuse to cede majority ownership.  One of the Bears limited partners owns the Chicago Fire and is entirely privately financing a new downtown soccer stadium in Chicago.   McCaskeys are looking for a good chunk of public financing in a state and city who is not too keen on using taxpayer money towards a sports stadiums.  Especially when the 2002 Soldier Field renovation still isn't paid off. And you're dealing with the richest sports league in the United States.

Remember Washington's football team moved out of DC into Maryland in 1997.  Oh, and don't forget the Giants moved out of NY to NJ in 1976 and the Jets also moved to NJ in 1984.......stuff happens.

Patriots moved out of Boston and became New Englands team unlike any of the of other major sports teams in the area.

Hammond, Indiana is actually closer and easier to get to for many Bears fans.  It is only like 20-25 minutes from Soldier Field.  So for a surburan location it actually makes a lot of sense.  It is just weird that the Bears may not be in Chicago. I suspect they would still be called the Chicago Bears, much like when the Browns move out of Cleveland and into Brookpark, they will still be the Cleveland Browns.

Easier by car maybe, but the Arlington Heights location is right next to a train station, while the Indiana location isn't
