Cam Thomas to me would be a good replacement for Anfernee Simons. You guys are way better at knowing the implications of salary and the Cap space, so I will throw it out there and let you weigh in.

As far as buy out guys go, Khris Middleton and Mike Conley dont excite me whatsoever.

But Cam Thomas would be really interesting. Or DeMar DeRozan if he demands a buy out.

I?d feel a lot better about missing ducking the tax if we put out a good bid for Cam Thomas. He?ll have a number of vet min offers, but we didn?t use our MLE this year, so we should be able to offer more.

Edit: We did in fact duck the tax, so Thomas is out, but things make a lot more sense now

Thomas is too much of a chucker, non-defender, and chemistry risk to me.

They could pick him up.  They should not.  He is the anti-Celtic.

And, I don't think they will, because signing a vet probably puts them back over the tax.

Yeah, with the Tillman news there is zero chance.

That is what I was thinking, they just got under the tax, I think they want to stay there.

So was Simons.

Simons was quite a bit more efficient, and I don't recall him clashing with teammates or management.

Has Thomas really clashed with teammates though? Because I couldn?t find any record of that ever happening. He has clashed with management over his contract situation that?s for sure, but that?s not an unusual situation for a young player. He has been inefficient this year, but his previous 3 years border on respectable efficiency of 35%-38% from 3, and 44% from the field. Not saying I?m all in on the idea, but it got me thinking.

I don't know, Cam Thomas and Simons seem pretty similar.  Yes, both score first guards, Cam a little bigger.  Cam appears less efficient this season but from a career standpoint, they are more similar.  But to me the question isn't Cam or Simons, it is Cam (resigned at min) and Vucevic or Simons.  No one knows yet who exactly will be available via buy outs, but I would not mind Cam Thomas on a min Contract, playing for his new contract.

If there is someone better that frees up, great.
