Money Saved: Around 41 million in salary, another roughly 250 million (rough estimate) in tax. Close to 300 million total in team spend just this year.

On the court: Jrue and KP have both had moments for POR and ATL, but they've also played a combined 38 games this year so far. Simons alone has probably given you more value so far this season than Holiday Porzingis have combined to their two teams.

It's interesting, I think most of us considered this year a wash after the trades (most of us includes Stevens, I'd say) and the fact that we're doing so well makes the end result of the trades both more and less important.

Yes.  For perspective, the $300 million the Celtics will have saved is larger than all but one team is projected to spend, and even after that the Celtics are still currently #8 in payroll + tax.

There's a bigger picture than just the $.  From what I've read, this allows them to be active in free agents as they no longer have the signing restrictions.  Someone who knows the cap better than me maybe be able to explain it more eloquently.

I think CLE made moves that will not translate into wins. Their first trade made them worse.  Hunter could defend wings well.   Keon is a good defender but much smaller.   Hunter also has a better defensive rating.  Schroder is not a good defender or shooter.

There is only ball both Mitchell and Harden need the ball. Harden's playoff record for his career is 15 W 16 L.  Although he averages 8.1 APG now, he is not good for ball movement.  Also, he is one of the most boring players I have ever seen to watch and no leader.  I could be wrong, but I don't think their moves put them over the top in terms of a title and could hurt their chemistry a lot.   Could they be better than us, without Tatum, I think so but they do have vulnerabilities to exploit.  Harden is a 15 year vet posting his worse defensive numbers of his career.

Players who are bought out in the next month from contracts that pay more than $14.1 million will be eligible to sign with the Celtics, when they would not have before the trade.  That said, there will likely be no more than a few such players that meet that classification (my guess is no more than four).  The one we are most interested in, KP, needs to be fist traded by Atlanta and then bought out by his new team. Since we traded him this offseason we cannot resign him unless he is traded again.  The best name on the list would be Khris Middleton.  He is rumored to want to go to the Lakers (of course he does).  Currently the Lakers are above the limit to sign him, but could get under with a small move.  In other words, it might be useful, but it is most likely not going to provide a benefit.

These were painful decisions but they seem like the right call.   The jury is out until we see how Vuc does here.

i think there's an argument that Vucevic gives us almost as much as Porzingis did.  KP obviously had amazing size and was a better defender, but he was also unavailable a lot, including during the championship run.  Vuc / Queta / Garza isn't as good as KP / Kornet / Horford, but it's at least in the ballpark.  I'm hoping that Vucevic develops locker room chemistry like KP did.

If Pritchard now assumes the "scorer off the bench" role, then ideally we'd have another PG who can step in and defend plus handle the ball.  Tillman + Boucher + Den #2 for Kris Dunn?

Agreed - 100 million here, 100 million there doesn't seem like much, but before you know it, it can start to add up to real money.

I am not saying Middleton would be awesome.  The list of players bought out at that salary level is just likely to be very small.  Nurkic is a possibility, but as we just traded for Vucevic we are likely a less attractive destination than before.  Middleton is not who he was but he still might be better than Walsh or Scheierman at 15 minutes a night in the playoffs, for instance.
