I guess this is an in Brad I Trust situation.

I understand extending the asset, but a 35 year old center that doesn't play defense is iffy to me.

I also understand the idea of holding onto your flexibility. The JJJ trade and proposed Zubac trade would have locked us in to our current situation.

This trade screams hold to me

Queta will likely continue to start. Vucevic coming off the bench instead of Garza is a home run.
If thats the outcome, I 100% agree

Grande said it won't be finalized until Thursday so maybe Friday night against Miami?

I kinda love the idea of having Vucevic as like a 20 MPG big off the bench behind Queta and wrecking opposing second units lol  :)

The Trade is Simons for Vucevic and we swap second round picks.

Vucevic is a very good rebounder as a big man and he can spread the floor by hitting the 3 point shot.

This year he is averaging 16.9 ppg 9rpg 37.6% from 3 point range.

So in that regard he feels like a poor man's Al Horford. He's a floor spacer. I don't feel he is quite as good a defender as Horford was but that's why we have Queta.

This move also gets us under that 1st tax apron so it saves the team quite a lot of money.

I hope Vucevic fits in well and we can re-sign him if he works out for us. Only concern is his age at 35 he's no spring chicken but he can certainly help us this year.

Won?t be finalized until Thursday means this may be added to a larger deal, or Vucevic or Simons may yet be moved again.

Losing Simons hurts but Vuc really solidifies our C rotation. I think Q keepps the starting  job for now, but wouldn?t be surprised if Vuc starts some games depending on the match up. I?m excited to see Vuc?s passing prowess and his ability to hit the three ball. I think his numbers will improve in Boston just because he?ll finally be with a contender and will be extra motivated. He can also be a great mentor for Amari if he stays beyond this year. I?m also expecting Brad to go for some bench scoring after this move. And if JT comes back, who knows what this team?s ceiling can be.

Not a fan of this move but when ownerships asks to get under the next tax it's BS job to get it done and try to still have a good team. Think BS did his best.

A little bittersweet losing Simons I have to say. He was buying into the Celtics culture and playing well.

Yeah, I'm bummed to lose him. He was trying hard and succeeding. OTOH, Vucevic is a great offensive center and a good rebounder, and should help a lot.

I?ve always wanted Vuc. Thought he was an Ainge/Brad type of player. He fits a need AND gets us under the apron? Big W.

I think he should start as he will stretch the floor for Brown (and Tatum), much like Horford and KP did.

I wonder if Pritchard will return to the bench when Tatum returns, and maybe have Hauser or even Hugo start.

White
Brown
Hauser
Tatum
Vucevic

With Pritchard back to supersub, Queta, Hugo, Scheierman, Garza, and Minot off the bench.

Have 2+ starters on the floor at all times, I really like this roster, but wouldn?t be surprised if Brad has something else going down.

All that speculation and the Celtics end up making probably the single most predicted trade of last offseason.

That said it's still a fine deal. Vucevic should slot into the Porzingis TPE, which means the Celtics will create a new TPE good for one year from today at the 27.7 million of Simons contract. That gives them flexibility to add this offseason.

Saves them roughly 6 million which is more like 30 million in salary+tax, which despite their claims obviously DOES matter to ownership somewhat. The price of saving that money ended up being the NOP second which is a bummer, but with the MIL second they have already looking better and better they probably didn't need three picks in the 25-40 range.

All in all a defensible, B- type trade to me. Just so long as they don't end up signing Vuc to big money next offseason.
